PETITION FOR THE RELEASE OF PALESTINIAN CHILD POLITICAL PRISONERS FROM ISRAELI JAILS AND AN IMMEDIATE INTERNATIONAL INQUIRY INTO ISRAELI PRACTICES TOWARDS PALESTINIAN CHILD DETAINEES.

WHEREAS the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), to which Israel is a State Party, outlines in Article 37 that “… detention or imprisonment of a child shall be in conformity with the law and shall be used only as a measure of last resort and for the shortest appropriate period of time.”;

WHEREAS Article 37 of the CRC states that, “Every child deprived of liberty shall be treated with humanity and a respect for the inherent dignity of the human person, and in a manner which takes into account the needs of persons of his or her age.”;

WHEREAS the CRC, the UN Convention Against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment, and other international treaties explicitly forbid the use of torture during interrogation and incarceration;

AND WHEREAS as of 28 September 2000, over 3,600 Palestinian children had been arrested by the Israeli authorities and around 400 remained incarcerated in Israeli jails, and considering that the majority of these Palestinian child detainees faced physical and psychological torture while under interrogation;

WE, the undersigned, call upon the United Nations Human Rights Commission to urgently press for the release of all Palestinian child political prisoners from Israeli prisons and an end to the practice of illegal arrests of Palestinian children.

FURTHERMORE, we call for an immediate inquiry into illegal Israeli practices towards Palestinian child detainees. This inquiry should focus upon the following: the use of torture during interrogation, denial of family and lawyer visits, and the incarceration of Palestinian child political prisoners alongside Israeli juvenile criminal prisoners.

Of course no one here is going to take this seriously, since the prevailing opinion in this forum seems to be that Palestinians are terrorists and that anything Israel does is necessary to protect itself against crazy Arabs who want to wipe all Jews off the face of the Earth.

If terrorist groups would not use children then things like this would not happen then again what do they consider a child?

I actually don't take it seriously, because I have a deep, dark feeling that the Palestinians aren't any better, really. Both sides are equally guilty in just about everything, if you asked me.

what "terrorist" groups? there are no terrorist groups in palestine.. only very limited resources resistence movements trying to defend palestini people from being killed, tortured or even raped; having their houses and farm lands demolished by the israeli occupation army; and restoring some the land stolen and still being stolen in palestine.. (the wall, anyone?)

the international media try to "frame" our mind by using "terrorist" terminology ..

ummm yeah you go ahead and stick with that, for me I will stick with any group who sends suicide bombers to blow up busses will be labled as a terrorist group.

Just think where Palestine would be these days if they didn't decide to attack Israel and get their ass kicked.
