Comparing Trump to Hitler is unfair

Just a few coincidences:

1.Both want to deport millions of minority population.

2.Both don't believe in birthright citizenship:
Only children of citizens are eligible for citizenship - only citizenship by blood relations.( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jus_soli vs en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jus_sang… )
This means millions more will be deported(as formerly legal residents become illegal).
The control on who is a 'real citizen' is in the hands of the government eager to find internal enemies.

Now for important questions:
Do you think its unfair to compare Trump with Hitler(after reading the above points)?
If you feel its unfair and biased, how much more 'coincidences' it will take for you to admit a similarity with Hitler or Mussolini?

Do you feel like living in late Weimar Republic  or do you feel its a regular US election season?

Did you think I'd forgotten, Donald? For a thousand years I have waited, watched in dejection as you made your pitiful country great again. I hope you enjoyed yourself. I really do. Because in the time that you were president, I have amassed a great and terrible army of skeleton delegates- skelegates, if you will, Donald. Without you around to ward off the forces of Chaos, I can finally escape from my prison. You just made your first mistake, Donald.

Now I can return to that fateful night in 2016 and claim what is rightfully mine! Together with my army of skelegates, I will finally have the majority I need to become the Republican nominee, and fight a principled conservative campaign for President. Nothing will stand in our way. Goodbye, Donald. You New York ways will taint the Party no longer. This is the priesthood rising! With my new powers, I will plunge this country into TEN THOUSAND YEARS of darkness, and the delegates...they will be at my side every step of the way. Thank you, Donald.

Hilter seemed a bit more serious than Trump, who acts like a clown!  And not to forget, Hilter did art!
But  they both know how to get followers...and a lot of them! :o

Comparing Trump to Hitler is unfair... Hitler had a couple redeeming qualities after all.

Certain people go on and on about Obama being like Hitler as well. Just saying. The really bad stuff about Hitler was not his roads or socialistic programs or restriction of speech and press, it was his wish to establish the Third Reich with a pure aryan race and that genocide of, to him, unwanted people he had going. Trump hasn't said or done anything like that. The guy is an offensive shit stirring buffoon, but he's not Hitler.
HinemiNeko's avatar
> The guy is an offensive shit stirring buffoon, but he's not Hitler.
Thats exactly what people thought about Hitler:
www.theatlantic.com/national/a…
TimLavey's avatar
I haven't heard anyone really say that about Hitler actually, but all offensive shit stirring buffoons aren't destined to become Hitler anyway. What is it with this desperate need to say that Trump is "literally" Hitler? Isn't it enough that Trump is Trump? That's bad in and of itself.
HinemiNeko's avatar
>but all offensive shit stirring buffoons aren't destined to become Hitler anyway.
Of course, only there are some rare cases with 40% voter support..
TimLavey's avatar
Sure, but you never know. What I'd like to say is that there's so much to criticise him on already without speculating on whether he'll become the new Hitler.
HinemiNeko's avatar
The potential to become a new Hitler is what this thread is about.
You're expecting him to become another typical conservative president like Bush or Reagan. You don't expect him to change the political landscape or subvert laws.
You hope his rhetoric turns to be empty promises. You ignore his alt-right supporters as insignificant minority with no political influence. You treat him as a celebrity getting in power. But these are just expectations as valid or even less valid as my predictions: they are based on inductive reasoning: that all presidents are predictable and stable officials who will not change the rules and since Trump plays by the rules now he will play by the rules as president.

Within this worldview the idea that Trump is actually aiming for genocide and dictatorship seems like a conspiracy theory(albeit a popular one).
But what does prevent him from becoming one if he follows with his plans?
The numerous warning signs and a scenario which exploits the conflict dynamic show that its really easy for Trump and his manipulated audience to do things that would be considered impossible or illegal in a democratic state.
The key problem is the belief that Trump is not a clever manipulator but a dumb clown who is incapable of leading a nation. I hope the following will change your mind:

We just have to disagree on what horrors Trump realistically is capable of then. I'd warn you though that it's easier for people to disregard your criticism the more outlandish and speculative your claims about him become. It almost becomes the Obama - Hitler comparison by the likes of Alex Jones and we all know how seriously most people take him.

Eh, no, the comparisons are pretty accurate, right down to being supported by complete idiots.

Except Trump has people who are willing to stand up against him.
TimLavey's avatar
If only they could stop trying to assassinate Trump. It's just gonna give his supporters more reason to support him when they see that some of his opposition resort to attempts of murder to silence him instead of outwitting the idiot.
YesImDeadpool's avatar
But nothing else done against him is working. It's like American voters are unconsciously drawn to stupid people.

Not to mention Trump's past actions have him looking close enough to what is defined as a sociopath;

-Compulsive liar
-Irresponsible
-Glibness and superficial charm (at least to his supporters)
-Grandoise sense of self
-Lack of empathy
-Shallow emotions (almost)
-Need for stimulation
-Lack of impulse control
-Early behavioral problems
-Infidelity
-Entrepreneurial versatility

He fits nine out of eleven signs of being a sociopath.
TimLavey's avatar
So? You don't kill off people just because you're not clever enough to outwit them. If so they have as much right to do the same with people they feel is a threat and where does that leave us? With Trump you just don't have to stoop down to his level and you've won the debate. Talk politics, criticise his naive ideas and suggest better ones. It isn't that hard. When he calls you a bully, don't call him Hitler. When he brags about having "all the best words" and a hot wife, don't say he's got a small dick and attempt assassination on him. Seriously, it's like arguing with a twelve year old. You can't loose unless you become worse than him which frankly is impressive on its own. It is amazing I think that the opposition to Trump and his ilk have such a hard time engaging with them fair and square.
  Stop right here.
I think you might have Mexican heritage.
 -This is racist! And unconstitutional!
 Lol, not anymore.

Perfectly illustrates the problem with revoking birthright citizenship.

So anyone who talks about a revolution is literally Hitler. I'm sure that will be useful to remember since no Leftists have ever gone in for that sort of rhetoric.

I suspect Trump's views shared with Hitler are also views shared with Churchill. Hitler's problematic views were ones shared neither with Trump nor Churchill, and that's the main thing. If Trump were like Hitler, he would want to invade Mexico and enslave the Mexicans, not build a wall to keep them out. So stop being so ridiculous.

I don't see why birthright citizenship is an automatic right. If I sneak my wife into Buckingham Palace to give birth, should the child therefore be recognised in as a royal prince? I think not! The analogy shows the fatuous nature of birthright citizenship.
HinemiNeko's avatar
>The analogy shows the fatuous nature of birthright citizenship.
This analogy misses the context: 11millions illegal immigrants + millions denied birthright citizenship, will be set to interned and deported: there will be protests, riots and likely martial law - and possible conflict with Mexico.

Do you see the scale of the problem now?
Now read the scenario linked at point #20.
intermetal's avatar
It's called enforcing the law. These people have citizenship of the nation of which their parents are legal citizens. That is where they should be, and they have to go back. That a problem has been allowed to get out of hand over decades of negligence, complacency and intentional demographic sabotage, is no reason not to tackle the problem. All that is needed is will and resolution. It doesn't have to be done overnight, but it has to be committed to, for the survival of the nation.

Internment was used by those fighting fascism (and Japanese imperialism), yet through some sleight of hand you would seek to portray it as inherently fascistic as a policy. No, it is just a necessity. Germans in Britain were interned during both World Wars. The people who introduced this sensible precaution would wonder at our folly fighting wars in Muslim countries while continuing to take in Muslim migrants and leaving Muslims at large to create mayhem in our own back yards.
HinemiNeko's avatar
>Internment was used by those fighting fascism (and Japanese imperialism),
It was used to round up innocent citizens of Japanese heritage of no know links to Japan. They were not imperialists or fascist.
intermetal's avatar
You can't be too careful.
HinemiNeko's avatar
Being a racist xenophobe and interning an entire ethnicity because you perceive they have "blood loyalty" is not being careful, its being paranoid and delusional.
