Are republicans & conservatives to blame for the poisoning of 9,000 kids in Flint,Michigan?

wrathfulwraith66's avatar
Republicans & conservatives have voted for an administration that decided to "reduce the size of government", "reduce the burden of taxes upon the taxpayer", and "reduce burdensome regulations". These are all both conservative and republican values- thus the permanent poisoning of 9,000 innocent kids can be directly blamed upon the following of conservative and republican ideology. Flint's water quality HAS NOT CHANGED </u> despite the number of media attention it has received.

Thus should conservative/republican ideology be the reason why the flint michigan crisis happened in the first place?
Should republicans and conservatives change their ideological belief systems since their belief systems are both wrong and can even prove fatal to people who have to live under it. ?
Should republicans should switch parties to become a member of the democrat party or at least the liberterian or green party?
Is it morally wrong to be a republican or conservative?
 Questions? Thoughts? Anyone?

Lets see who is in charge of Flint Michigan, Mayor Karen Weaver, a registered democrat.  Here is the direct cause.  The city of Flint, in an attempt to save money, planned to stop buying water from Detroit and sign up with a regional water system; in between the time they were hashing out the hew system, it was getting its municipal water from the Flint River, which is a toxic waste dump. Flint Residence already knew the river with a shithole and openly complained about the smell of the water and it's taste, a outbreak of Legionnaires’ disease may also be linked to city water. The city of Flint knew about this, and did just about nothing in response until the problem was well advanced. This was of course before Mayor Weaver, back when it was Mayor Don Williamson (Who actually did time in jail for various scams some years back) and a Democrat who resigned under threat of recall. and his predecessor before him democrat Mayor Woodrow Stanley who was replaced by democrat James W. Rutherford after he basically made the entire city broke.  You starting to see a pattern here right?

Which brings me to Darnell Earley, who became the city’s emergency manager. Earley is the Democrat the other Democrats blame for changing the city’s water supply, and the Michigan Democratic party has demanded his termination. The Obama administration knew about this, too, and had known for a long time, since February of last year at least — but it chose to keep quiet on the matter.

So tell me, where is it a conservatives' fault?

Technically reducing the size of government is a classical liberal value. Conservativism is essentially about conserving things that merit conservation. If something is destructive of things valuable to a nation then it is by definition not conservative.

Due to historical accidents, in America classical liberals are called 'conservatives', and socialists are called 'liberals'.

Flint Michigan is a Democratic Party stronghold, blaming anything there on Republicans is a bit silly, anyway. Also I have yet to see an argument for equating small government with poisoned water.

Republicans are conservatives

But conservatives aren't by necessity Republicans.

This coming from an uneducated redneck...Unimpressed

Apparently calling things how things are presented and the way things are seen to someone, or living in Pennsylvania, or their political alignments makes someone a redneck these days.  Great argument.

I'm truly sorry but I am a proud conservative. I have no shame for being one. And no, It is not morally wrong to think for yourself(use the brain God gave you) or believe in the free market capitalism that made america a world power in the first place. Frankly, what I find morally wrong is that, despite Michigan being a predominantly liberal state, people like this moron  have the audacity to blame the same people that are actually attempting to be productive in this situation. Republican ideologies that you so speak of have nothing to do with poisoned water. And republicans wanting a smaller government and embracing something called FREEDOM, is in no way related to the poisoning of water in a predominantly liberal state. Clearly people like you are totally clueless in this subject matter. But then again people like you are also looking at a map of the United States and saying "What's that?"

Flint's local government is dominated by Democrats.  Surely they bear some of the blame.
Legio-X's avatar
You can look it up.

Why don't you just give me the proof?
Legio-X's avatar
Because it's common knowledge if you've been following this story.

No, the idiots who installed lead pipes in the first place are to blame. c:

I really doubt that it's a party-specific problem overall.

By the way you stage this question it seems you already made your mind up on the answer.

Personally I think a 2 party system should have never formed in the U.S and that greed, neglect, and the impersonal nature of politicians are the key factors for a tragedy like this. Flint had the money to fix those pipes for decades. They also had federal guidelines to follow but they decided to use that money for something else less important (possibly to line their own pockets) than the health and safety of its people.

The Far Right Republicans and Tea Partiers claim reducing the size of government and getting rid of certain agencies will reduce government corruption and give more power to the voters. They want to end or reduce funding to agency like the IRS and EPA because they believe those who are in charge of such agencies are wasteful with the tax payers' money and don't do much of anything for the people because they are a bunch of fat cats who know they will get a pay check. Pot calling the kettle black in my opinion.

The main problem with this idea is that the government has tried a loose approach with regulating companies in the past and that led to people falling into giant vats of meat and children working in coal mines. In the end, not too many people with wealth and power will do the right thing for others they don't know or care about. What they need to do is start firing people and reducing peoples terms in office. In China if some prick gets caught poisoning a bunch of people through neglect,  he gets executed.

But hazardous workplaces, environmental destruction, and unsafe tap water are all very common in China.

True, true, they are quite selective on who they kill off. As long as there is not a mass death and poisoning of a  large group of civilians by a business owner , the Chinese government does not seem to care that much.
