Melissa Click, the University of Missouri faculty member who called for "muscle" to forcibly remove an inconvenient student reporter is now being charged with assault.

I wonder how much whining she'd do if she wound up actually going to jail.

Click has officially been fired by the college.

As far as the charges go, she took a plea deal: 20 hours of community service and one year deferred adjudication. However, the college has suspended her from her position pending an investigation.

Excellent. We need more transparency in organizations like this, and independent reporting is necessary for that to happen. I hope the charges go through (assuming our knowledge of what happened is accurate) and other universities take heed.

That's good. The press had the right to be there.

Good, I have no sympathy for her or any of the academia.

You make a topic about someone being charged with a misdemeanor that carries two weeks in jail as a sentence. Most likely community service. :movingon:

It's the fact she's even being charged at all that's important.

She was willing to use force or even violence to suppress the media when it became inconvenient to have them around. That's not cool, and shouldn't be tolerated.

...and isn't being tolerated.

Hopefully this'll make a lot of these other "crybully" types realize that they can't use force to get their way.

What other ones are being tolerated?

For example, we have this - www.washingtontimes.com/news/2… - from a few months ago wherein Black Lives Matter protesters stormed the campus library at Dartmouth. They began verbally abusing and cornering students who didn't drop everything to join them, and some of them even chased a student out of the building. When BLM got raked over the coals for the incident, the vice provost for student affairs sided with the protesters and even apologized to them for the negative media attention even after the college president announced an investigation - www.washingtontimes.com/news/2…

So it wasn't tolerated. What other ones are being tolerated?

I mean, this entire thread feels like making a post about someone getting caught and prosecuted for shoplifting, and asking us to discuss it. There doesn't seem to be a rash amount of people getting support for shoplifting.
