www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/t…

This is a really interesting post form the washington-post, apparently politics affect our pet choice, but the article did not say why. What do you think is the reason why? Is there something psychological about it? It doesn't make any sense to me, does it make sense to you?

For politics to affect our lives this much, actually kind of scares me. Does it scare you?

How is this news worthy? Personally I prefer dogs. I'm also a socialist. Oh god... I'm such a freak of nature.

Not entirely sure, but I'm independent and I like fish. I'm not sure what the statistics are for independents liking a different sort of animal, but I'd be happy if it was the fish. :D

So if you are the type that doesn't desire to maintain any pets, what does that make you? Libertarian?

There is no way that a person's political bias has any affect on whether they like cats or dogs more. This is just too silly.

Because cats are basically preening parasites with no loyalty and with a haughty sense of entitlement, and Leftists can identify with that. Dogs, by contrast, have been known to work for a living, and to show some appreciation for what they get.

isn't a better explanation that Liberals tend to be in cities, where there are more cat-owners, and conservatives are more in rural areas where there are more dog owners?

walking a dog in a city means picking up a lot of sidewalk craps and owning a cat in a rural area could mean a snack for wild animals.

If you read the article at all, you would find that it has nothing to do with urban/rural-ness. The new-england regions is both predominetly rural&white- it is also extremely liberal and a devout fan of cats.

I've heard in other threads about the city-rural spread of the politics. So it was the first which came to mind.

Is there any real reason why anyone gives a shit about this?

This is why America's doomed. People are more interested in stupid crap like this than who the men and women who run the country are.
