[link] at any rate, perhaps people might be more careful what they download and be more careful what they use to download things on? if a complete unknown at the time to computers steps forth and did this, imagine what a rightful hacker of known origins could do. somehow I seriously doubt people are going to be careful with downloading and sharing of things, I see so many phished accounts on facebook alone
"Thousands of victims were surprised by a Virus on their 'intelligent'*1 Apps in northern france, which was developed by a french hacker, who was arrested after a leak. It was stated that the hacker stole small sums from about 17.000.000 people, stealing about 500.000 euro in total. The hacker operated from his parents house in northern france, using free downloads, which were meant to like like legitimate software.
However these apps stole money over microtransactions in the background. It seems, that google-smartphones, aka androids, were affected worst. Once installed, the software sent a SMS to a costly phone-line, which the hacker had configured. Some of the software also sent him the login-details for several gambling-websites, if the victim was a member.
The hacker had never studied IT*2, but was described as intelligent by the persecution. He confessd guilty when arrested, however stated, that he wasn't motivated by greed, but by love to computers"
*1 (tn: I dunno, what that's supposed to mean, it's not clear in the original german either) *2 (you don't need to study IT for that, anyone can do that).
Sorry for the loose translation, but I coulodn't be bothered, especially, because I have no Idea what the fuck this is doing on this forum, and what it wants to tell us. I'd suggest to lock this thread.
