How would you fix America?

Grendeer's avatar
My studies of history have shown me the gradual decline of America. I'm wondering what ideas you have on how to fix it.

My question: If you could fix America with the flick of a switch, how would you do it?

I thought I'd update how I think America should be fixed.
Ultimately, most of America's problems are a result of spiritual apathy or lifelessness. If Christians were to wake up and start living like Christ, then many of America's problems would simply disappear.
Firstly: Economics
The Bible clearly teaches good stewardship. (Lk. 12:42-48) If the government were to observe the teaching of this passage, then America would start to revover from her economic woes.
Secondly: Marriage
"Therefore shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall cleave unto his wife, and they shall be one flesh." (Gen. 2:24) Unfortunately, this one sparks uproar in homosexual communities. God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah over this issue, He will destroy America as well.
Thirdly: School
"He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes" (Pro. 13:24) This concept sparked the popular phrase, "spare the rod, spoil the child". If schools were allowed to enforce discipline, academics in America would be much stronger. Also, their would be a lower crime right in American schools, because kids would be taught the difference between right and wrong, and the consequences for stepping out of line would be severe.

True, but does that include the Amendments?

I have a solution in mind but it involves unicorns...

If we find a living breathing unicorn willing to help only then will the US be "fixed".

(in other words give us something doable please)

This is a hypothetical situation, I am well aware of how difficult it is in real life, that's why I asked the question in the first place.

I think the original post was political trollbait/ flamebait. I don't think you expect anyone to come up with a feaseable plan to fix a country with so many problems are the US. On a serious note I hope you guys do figure it out.

Also, I'll try to bring over someone who has a different view by politely showing them errors in their logic. At the same time, I will not tolerate disrespect of any kind.
Grendeer's avatar
Actually, the original post was bait for people to come express their feelings without the fear of being trolled.
I will never attack someone, or blatantly attempt to irritate them. I will ask questions, in an effort to understand the reasoning behind what people say, and I will more than happily argue my points of necessary.

sounds like u have a good point but to me it could be all fixed if everyone was more educated, and i agree with u about removing all the scumbags out of government. Obama should do a boris yelstin come in pissed and say your all sacked!

I am not an Obama supporter. In fact, it is his tenor as President that inspired me to create this forum.

TBH, I'm not very intelligent when it comes to politics. It's not so easy to get into, IMO.
Though, apparently, I'm socialist. So, to fix that place using my knowledge of politics would end up making the place even worse. Though, this is probably what I would to on the top of my head.
Remove all religious and/or corrupt influence from politics. Full stop.
Fix television so that it is less biased. And for the kids, maybe a show that isn't absolutely idiotic. Dora the explorer will be out on her little ass, that's for certain.
Equal rights for all. None of this nonsense where transsexuals would be laughed at by police/doctors/the public. Despite me being an athiest, I'd still permit religion, but I would prohibit the concept of one pushing their beliefs on another. So, you can have your churches and prey to god and stuff, but no breaking your son's metal guitar, or bitchslapping your lesbian daughter. And finally, much more legislations and laws to make sure children and teenagers aren't being bullied, raised badly, or indoctrinated with anything. Oh, and I'd ban all neo-nazis, KKK members, and the WBC would be sent back to kindergarten (in their own little class, so they don't bully the more mature children.)
All in all, this is my opinion. If there is a flaw in my logic, I apologize, but opinions are opinions.
Grendeer's avatar
The Founding Fathers were very religious men, for the most part. Therefore, removing all religion from government would be a very bad idea.
Yes
Being transsexual is wrong, but I'm not going to hate YOU. It is your SIN that I hate.
Yea, those "churches" aren't preaching the Word. The Bible teaches discipline, but not provocation or abuse.
Yes
Be careful about opinions, try to be sure of the facts behind them.

The founders were most definately not religious. The letters of Thomas Jefferson and John Adams prove that. If they were part of any religion, they were deists.

The Constitution is based off of several "religious" principles. The fact that it says all men are created equal under God is a clear indication of the founding fathers religious back grounds. Also, Jefferson and Adams lived during the First Great Awakening period (circa 1740-1760). They would have been directly influenced by great preachers like George Whitefield.
Also, they more than likely, were Presbyterian or something close, as that was the dominant religion at the time.

The Constitution never mentions God.

The fact that they lived at the same time as George Whitefield means nothing, especially since John Adams was a Unitarian and Thomas Jefferson was a Deist. Also, their letters seem to imply a disdain towards organized Christianity.
Grendeer's avatar
You're right, it doesn't, my mistake.

Like I said, the dominant religion at the time was Presbyterian. It does matter that Whitefield, Jefferson, and Adams all shared time. Jefferson and Adams would have heard him speak, and no one was immune to Whitefield.
Being a Deist means that he believed their is a god. He probably believed in the One God, although no one knows if Jefferson ever accepted Christ as his Savior.
Even if Adams was a Unitarian he would still have believed in Jehovah.
Mclandis's avatar
Believing in God does not mean that the Constitution is based on religious principles. The founders went out of their way to make to keep the government secular. This especially appears in the Treaty of Tripoli which openly declares the United States to not be a Christian nation.

First, I higly recommend you read this. It changed my opinion on religion, from "intolerable" to "don't mind.". Assuming all of the bible is that poorly translated, I could totally bring myself to believe in the christian doctrines.

And, "it's your SIN I hate.", really? Be concerned with your own sins, sweetie. The fact the founding fathers were "Religious, for the most part" doesn't change my opinion, plus, assuming the bible ISN'T as poorly translated and/or taken out of context, It does...

But yeah, the WBC is terrible...

Grendeer's avatar
I read it. The author points out the different words in the original tongues, but he does not mention the tedious process by which the Bible was translated into English, not does he mention how it was preserved through the ages.
I am. My point was that God hates sin not sinners, because I'm a Christian, I try to be like Christ (God the Son). I must hate sin but not sinners.
I will happily explain how the Bible was translated via a note.
Most true Christians despise what WBC does, those that don't need to get reacquainted with God.
BMagnum's avatar
Very well.
I doubt either one of us will change eachother's opinion, so let's save time, and drop this conversation dead, yes?
Grendeer's avatar
Agreed, but that doesn't mean you have to stop posting. Please continue to post.

Oh, and no. I'm not saying the fact that I am socialist is gonna make america worse. the "Apparently I'm a socialist" thing was supposed to be in brackets. I forgot. :(

I'd get the fundamentalist imbeciles as far out of office as humanly possible.
Grendeer's avatar
How are they imbeciles? What about the President doubling the national debt in his first term?
