I was a registered Republican since the day I turned 18 until this year. I gave upon the GOP because they dont ever mean what they say. They say they are for smaller government, but too look at their track record, youd see they are just as much about GROWING the federal governments power as the Democrats *cough*GeorgeW*cough*. I identify themost with Libertarians, but even on some level I don't find them all that attractive. I do have a registered party, that way I dont get a bunch of election calls and pamphlets that I only use a fuel for the fireplace. My wife is registerd unaffiliated and we got mountains of "Vote for Obama!" trash and people with the Obama campaign knocking on our door several times a day (if I didnt already plan on not voting for him, I would have voted against him just out of spite that his people were bothering the shit out of me). So thats why I always register with a party, so peopleleave me the hell alone. "Git off Ma Property!"
I don't aling with any party, but I choose the person who's ideology and stand on certain issues is closest to my owns. Mostly because of the abudance of parties we have here, it is easier to look for the person you can agree with on the issues I feel that are important.
In my opinion, the Dems are correct as far as social policies go. Everyone belongs to the species Homo sapiens regardless of skin color, sex, or orientation. Therefore, all humans should be treated equal. However... I think socialism is abhorrent, and that's what Dems seem to be shooting for. Socialism just doesn't work and it is easily abused by the citizens.
In my opinion, the 'Pubs are right (pun totally intended ) as far as economic policies go. Capitalism, despite its several flaws, is a strong form of economy, one that has carried the United States from its inception to the present. Compare the track record of various socialist states in terms of economy... not so good. However, I believe that conservative social policies are abhorrent, promoting discrimination, and at least half of them seem to be based on what the "Bible" says (not knocking the religion, just the people that use it as an excuse to discriminate).
Because of my split down the middle, I am forced to actually brush up on individual policies as they come, and I hate that
I live in the UK and used to side with the Lib-Dems. They have sold out on most of what I agreed with though and shown themselves to have no spine whatsoever. Currently I can't say I align myself with any party. They are all full of self-serving shits who will say anything to get support. They are a discrace to humanity and I'm really not sure what to do with my vote come the next election.
In the US, I tend to identify with the democrats more often then not. There's probably a smaller party that fits my ideals better but there's no chance for them to make much of a difference so I'll back the side that is most likely to give me equal rights.
Oh sounds interesting. I just did a bit of research (I don't know much about German Politics) and I agree. The Pirate Party seems to have a lot of potential.
I can see why you change your party affiliation with each election though, I probably would too if the USA had proportional representation. It honestly seems like a much better way of electing government officials than our winner-must-have-majority way.
