I've been really into this show for a while, and I'm curious. Do ya'll agree with most of his political beliefs? All of them? None of them? Only some?
Do you think he's really good at getting his point across, or no?

I'd like to hear detailed reasons for your thoughts, too. I always enjoy hearing every side of things.

My dad absolutely loves this guy, and I'm a flaming social liberal, but I hate Bill Mahr because he's a lazy comedian. He made a career of pointing out how stupid George Bush was, which frankly takes no skill. After growing up with the worst president in recent history, I don't want to hear about Gee Dubs anymore. Hate Micheal Moore too, he's just fat and obnoxious, enjoy Rachel Maddow though, so cute and smart.

I find him boring, and paranoid. He is an Anti-Vaxxer, which isn't good.

The Onion is all I need.

For serious though I've never seen him.

From what little I've seen of him, he doesn't seem much better than the likes of Limbaugh or Beck. If you're getting your political views from screaming men on TV, you're doing it wrong.

Bill is entertaining - and not always right.

He is however, more right than wrong on most issues (vaccines being one exception).

I like Bill. I agree with most of his points and he can get them across with comedy. I hope one day I can be on his show.

His show has been shit since he left ABC.

Back then the show was all about the topics, the chaos of the discussions was alive.
Now it's segmented bullshit and the conversations are limited to 20 second bursts so Bill can do stupid shit.

It used to be Nightline and Maher for a good combo.
Now it's "I'll tune in for the 10 minutes of people talking about stuff" then change then channel.

Not a fan.

It annoys me when people believe that just because you are an atheist, it automatically means you are an intellectual. I believe Bill Maher is guilty of that kind of thinking.

And yes, the vaccination thing is true. He's just like goofy doofy Glenn Beck in that sense!

I think your 'disgust' is misplaced. Mr Maher has been in the industry for decades now. He's an established personality.

On some issues he's got legitimate thoughts, on others, he's trendy or emotional.
That more or less makes him the equal to most of today's prominent opinion slingers.

For the record, I don't really put Bill Maher any lower than I'd put any other prominent opinion slinger, conservative or liberal. Rush Limbaugh is also an established personality who has been in the industry for decades, I think he's a douche too (for different reasons).

The atheist comment was something he does that most atheists do that I find annoying, but that's a debate for another time.

I used to watch his show for kicks, but then he became more of an asshole and less funny. So I switched to Colbert/Daily.

I like all three. He is a dick, but his show still has a pretty good point.

I liked his "New Rules", but I felt his attitude got in the way of any useful information on the show.

His view on vaccination is unconscionable.

Hmm. I haven't heard that before! Can you explain why you believe that a bit better? You don't have to, though.

He doesn't think most, maybe all vaccines work, that they're a pharmaceutical conspiracy and cause disease. He shoots his mouth off and in doing so reduces vaccination rates.

Yikes. I didn't know that.
I'll have to disagree with him on that one, too. I'm gonna go read up on his views. Thanks!

I find with Maher that none of his views have been reached rationally, they have no logical underpinning. Even those that I agree with, and there are many, have been reached in the most ridiculous way, the similarities in our views are therefore only coincidence, and bound to happen for that reason alone.

We see this in his shows, and his films. He refuses to engage in rational discourse or have a serious argument, and will change the subject or crack a joke to escape an argumentative pursuit. A lot of this may be put down to the television format, but he also does it in his films where he has the time and creative control to do differently. And he does: without a studio to keep him contained he can simply run away.

He's all right for entertainment purposes, but his views cannot be taken seriously.
