It seems $76,000 is not a livable wage in Chicago. Thank goodness we have unions fighting for these poor workers instead of states like Wisconsin that have all their schools in session and people actively working in ...you know....their jobs.
Do we still favor the powers of unions when it clearly is not in the best interest of their members nor the people and students these public workers are supposed to serve?
A lot of my friends who are teachers would kill for a wage like that. I would seriously think about it- I'm not making 1/4 of that wage right now.
Despite the fact that I rarely agree with maddmatt, he's right. $70,000 isn't enough to live on? You've got to be kidding me. Special circumstances aside, $70,000 is WAY more than enough for a family. (How do I know this? It's more than what my dad made all through my childhood, and my life was a cakewalk.)
IDK where you're living or what the costs are there, but $70,000 for me would be enough that I could put TONS of money away each year to save. In 5 or 6 I could buy a good home outright- IN CASH. Or even get a decent car! A NEW one!
Yeah, you're right. And we STILL live comfortably As a family. Amazing, isn't it, how your own comments come back to bite you in the-... well, it was painful anyway.
So you're saying, you have a one-income family with how many children? or relatives who need support? that makes less then 70,000 a year and you consider that comfortable?
My father is the only one who worked during my childhood. My mother eventually got a job as a sub-para, but that was extra income, and it's mostly for her own discretionary spending. My father was able to provide us a comfortable home to live in (family of 4), pet dog(s), vacations every couple of years, television, the lot.
YES. I CONSIDER THAT COMFORTABLE. A cakewalk. I have had it so much better than so many people that it's ridiculous. I find it laughable that you can complain about such a wage. I find it, in fact, INSULTING to those who DO wish to have more. $70,000, a bare minimum for living wage? Don't make me laugh.
yes, but that was then, this is now. Things are more expensive then they were back then, not to mention there are more things you need for daily life nowadays such as cell phones, internet and cars or as you probably know them "horseless carriages".

Is this a noble fight for the poor workers?
