At work, you probably expect to be judged on your qualifications and performance, not on your personal life. But in 31 states in the USA, you can be fired because you're gay or because your boss thinks you are and it's 100% legal. (It's 39 states if you're transgender... or your boss thinks you are.)
Is that right or wrong?
contrary to my attention grabbing thread title i believe it to be... wrong.
"life isn't fair and you have to deal with it." that is a lame argument, people shouldn't have to deal with crap like this, the powers that be should wake up and do away with these laws, rather than just say "yeah its pretty crap but you can go through all the stress and finance of taking someone to court and then everything will be fine, probably"
Generally a boss with any brains will offer a legally neutral official reason for any firing. In most cases its almost impossible to prove real reasons. You could be fired because the boss dislikes you or anything about you. I've seen newsletters suggesting reasons and methods. Don't forget being fired for smoking legally obtained cigarettes either.

"Up is a direction diametrically opposed to down" ~druid69
That's a naieve argument. The very definition of one.
Not everyone on earth is an "enlightened individual," though I really hate that turn of phrase. The powers that be can't just force people to adhere to laws that they lay down, that'd be fascistic.

"Gentlemen, you can't fight in here! This is the War Room!" ~ Dr. Strangelove
I had visions of gay people being fired out of cannons.
