"After finding "inappropriate" pictures of his daughter on the web, an exasperated father grounded his 12-year-old daughter and refused to allow her to go on a three-day school trip. Her response was to sue him, and guess what? She won." [link]
"The father, who is divorced but has [full] legal custody of his daughter, cut off her Internet access after she chatted on websites he had tried to block. She then used a friend's Internet connection to post inappropriate pictures of herself [on a dating site], Beaudoin said.
After discovering that, the father told his daughter she couldn't go on the three-day school trip. According to Beaudoin, the daughter "slammed the door" and went to live with her mother, who was willing to let her take the trip.
However, the school wouldn't allow the girl to go unless both parents consented or she obtained a court order. That prompted the girl, with her mother's support, to take legal action against her father, culminating in Friday's ruling." [link]
The field trip was, as the girl's lawyer describes, a "rite of passage." It was "something which would never happen again in the girl's life."
I found this news highly amusing. But amusement aside, it's an odd case. Some... or rather, I would hope, a lot of people would say this is the Government interfering when it shouldn't. But I don't think the Government would have had any grounds to interfere were it not for the specifics of this case--that being, the parents were divorced. The father made a decision of discipline, and the girl runs to her mother, who allows the girl to run free.
Had these parents not been divorced/still married and disallowed the girl from going, would there be any Judge who would have ruled in the girl's favour? I'd highly doubt it, personally.
Obviously the mother is just trying to get back at the father by any means necessary. Even if it means damaging the daughter by practically condoning her "rite of passage" towards becoming an internet slut. That's probably exactly the kind of thing that saw her lose custody in the first place.
I hate brats like that. They seem all to common today

We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
