NOT THAT I SUPPORT THE CUILT OF SCIENTOLOGY, BUT…

When you take a literal reading of any religion’s teachings, be it Scientology’s trillion year old earth (same with Hinduism) and earth impregnated with life be aliens that destroy evidence of them (not too dissimilar from Intelligent Design’s explanation for evolutionary evidence) or Christianity’s precepts a wholly simple God too far above the laws of logic to comprehend (who just so happens to like impregnating virgins and wrestling with Jewish farmers in the desert), of an all-loving and all powerful deity that lets the world be filled with evil and idiocy (while restraining people’s free-will, if such a thing exists, through social rules, economic constraints and physical and mental illnesses), of an intervening God who regularly performs miracles (events which break the laws of nature he himself apparently made unbreakable) but only for the people he likes.

These literal teachings are all equally absurd, but that doesn’t matter; the true strength of any faith isn’t what’s literally taught, however, but the messages people can read into it. The cult of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, or even scientology, could provide as much moral truth as Judaism or Hinduism, if you read the right messages out of it.

Before you say, “but scientology’s a cult, coz you have to give your material possessions to the cult leaders,” remember the early history of the Christian Church; way back before the Romans even thought to feed the followers of Jesus to the lions, when Christianity was little older than Scientology Is now, it was a prerequisite for new members of the faith to relinquish all material possessions to the community of the church; that Is, Christianity is (or at least was) a false religion, if you consider any religion that requires members to give up their cash to the leader to get to heaven a false religion.

Also, before you start spouting on about how, Scientogy is worse than Christianity simply because it’s newer, think what your saying; your arguing from ignorance, that Christianity must be better, simply because you don’t know anything about it’s history , but do you really know any more about the history of scientology. Otherwise, your making a claim based SOLEY upon it’s age, in which case, you should accept anything an elderly person says to you over a young person, if age intrinsically breeds wisdom and truth. Also, your subjecting faith question by real-world evidence that makes them sound corrupt or that contradicts their teachings; there’s just as much of that, in what we DO know about the older religion’s histories, and so if we damn scientology on that, we damn all faiths.

To conclude, Scientology really isn’t that much more crazy, than believing that the Buddha found enlightenment under a tree somewhere in India or that the world was made in seven days by a flying spaghetti monster; they’re both equally valid, however, if looked at from the right (highly distorted) angle.

Except it was made by a science fiction author who is quoted as saying "The best way to make money is to form a religion."

Christianity encourages people to relinquish their wealth to live fuller and more virtuous lives, without the temptations or evils bred by riches. And Christians were asked to relinquish their material possessions not just to the church, but to their fellow believers and the poor as an act of charity (the churches of the time were hardly filled with the material possessions of the followers, imagine going to the church and a door bursting to reveal a sliding pile of your neighbours possessions - it didn't happen). Scientology, on the other hand, is a highly corporate and media fuelled religion. It offers little to no spiritual or moral guidance. In two thousand years people will not be quoting the doctrines of the Church of Scientology, and it isn't because they're spiritually or wilfully ignorant, it's because it's a pathetic sham of a religion.

You're right that we should look beyond the obvious, but we also have to be discerning, and if Scientology isn't a cult, then what is? Just look at their practices, their policy of fair game and harrassment of followers, or the teaching that you should separate yourself from anyone the Church deems to have negative and suffocating energies (essentially anyone who isn't a Scientologist in all cases).

All religious enterprise amounts to misleading others, and humanity isn't going to get much further until we divest ourselves of these superstitions- Scientology and Christianity included.

As to the question of why pick on Scientology: When you decide to mow the lawn, do you labor all day over which grass deserves to be cut first, or do you pick a corner and start mowing?

It's not about the stories that each religion has, it's about their intentions and scientologies intention seems to be to separate fools from their money and some from their lives.

My feeling on the issue can be summed up like this.

I support the questioning and maintaining stringent skepticism upon the Scientology establishment.

I DO NOT support the organization and unionization of hackers. Period. Whatever they pick on, the fact that they've come together as one massive entity is a wholly unnecessary and frightening aspect to think about. So when they're done with Scientology, what will the decide to take out next?

Anonymous aren't all hackers on steroids like Fox News wants you to believe, most Anonymous are just people who spend time on the internet and screw around.
