religion is composed of spirituality and dogma. in my version: spirituality is for me, but DOGMA is NOT for me :D
Religion was mans first attempt at science. Now that we have actual science, with evidence based facts and theories, religion shouldnt be for anyone from this century.

Apparently not, 535 seats in US congress and not a single atheist.
But surely there has to be some...I mean an educated human being
can't possibly believe in such nonsense can they?

There is no reason for religion

Every religion is equally wrong and right with their beliefs. Im open-minded and accept all religions as they are. Note that religions are important reason for war and terrorism. People are stupid and way too manipulated if they're that critical towards different beliefs and cultures.

Sometimes i find it a bit weird and even scary when someone is really believing in Bible and are totally ignoring other religions. Purpose of religions is to give us strength and hope in our lives. As long as they do so it's same to me what people believe in.

Personally i feel that world religions are little "man-made" and that the real god-like thing is above all of them.

You can have faith in a higher being, without belong getting caught up in the dogma and ritual of a religion.

I like religion, so long as I'm not obliged to believe any of it.
From a purely scientific, anthropological viewpoint it's quite fascinating.
The problems only arise when people insist that their way is right and everyone else's is wrong.

It takes a special kind of stupid to be a theist.

Gregor Mandel, Issac Newton, Einstein, Blaise Pascal...
yeah real stupid.

I meant in today's world, in light of what those minds have taught us, which I didn't think would need clarifying. Obviously there's always a pedant lurking nearby.

What so we're somehow smarter than anyone from the last century?
CatapultedCarcass's avatar
Smarter? No.

However, our understanding of the nature of the universe has progressed more in the last century than it ever has in the history of mankind. That's irreputable, and also more relevant than who's "smarter" than who.
CinderBlockStudios's avatar
I agree, but that doesn't mean religion has remained stagnant and we still burn people at the stake either.
CatapultedCarcass's avatar
No, but as time goes on it will only grow further and further out of touch with modern society. It wasn't long ago that being an atheist was a minority, and you were vilified for it. Now, the civilised world grows more secular by the day, and I rejoice in that.

That's one section out of an entire book that at times justifies all sorts of atrocities against women and children.:smoking:
