Tip: restart thread in a way that encourages polytheists to discuss their many varying gods or restart thread in a way that encourages discussion about Egyptian gods or reconstructed religions. Or, put in journal, link to in signature. :lock:

I always liked Egyptian. It tends to sometimes sneak into my artwork. I like Seth/Set , Anubis, and Bastet.

Most of the Greek Gods and Goddesses are similar to the Egyptian's.
So, I suppose I do.

Hehe Egyptian gods are fun. They're way more interactive than many others, they want you to be a friend as opposed to a servant. Anubis was the first god to appear to me, and the reason I stopped trying to be Christian.

I love Eris, too. She's so much fun. If you don't mind your life being utter chaos ;)

Though I don't really see them as gods in the sense that they made the universe, more like creatures that live in it above/outside our normal range of perception. They are still quite powerful and can influence things we can't.

~Nodnod~ They are quite fun.

As for Anubis appearing to you, he is very powerful, but also very kind.

And your point of view: My mother and grandmother have that point of view as well.

See! These three are nice to me! Why can you not be more like them?

lol I dunno, I suppose some religions see them as demons trying to corrupt your soul, science sees hallucinations/overactive imagination.

Whenever I see someone fighting or putting down someone elses religious views or beliefs the first thing that I think is that THEY are unsure of their own faith, and feel you are somehow challenging it.

I used to lecture at the local Pagan Student Association. It was always interesting when we got surrounded by the local Christian groups.

Kind of sounds like you're bored and you just want to believe in Egyptian gods to make things more interesting

Relating to the subject, Anubis is my favorite Egyptian god. He's pretty awesome

Anubis is another one of my favorites too.

As for your other comment, no I really do believe in the Egyptian Gods. I have for 3 years now.

Other then the times I was contacted by the Gods(Which most people would say are hallucinations), I would say the neutrality of it.

The gods of Egypt are not 'Divine', per se, but rather beings who have mastered the art of magic.

That's rather silly. Do actually believe the sun is a disk riding along in Ra's heavenly boat?

Actually, the religion has changed at bit. No, the sun is not a disk carried by Ra. The sun is a flaming ball of gas, but Ra makes it rise. Maybe he does not carry it, but he makes it rise.

That doesn't sound much like what they believed in Egypt in Ancient times. So, why is it that you believe this upgraded and modernized version of Ra is making the sun rise?

And I have to ask if you actually believe that it's the sun rising and not just the Earth rotating making it seem as if it rise up from the horizon. I can never be sure with the godbelievers.

I modernized it solely because there were things I already knew that had been proven.

And yes, I do realize that the sun does not rise, the Earth rotates.

You know that the Earth rotates, but at the same time, think that Ra makes the sun rise? I don't understand.

Ra is in control of the sun, and also keeps order in place(Along with Ma'at). Without the sun, we would all die, right? Death is a form of chaos. To keep order in place, Ra keeps the sun in the sky and makes sure we get to see it every morning.

That is not the best explanation, but it is the best I can do.

It's an interesting idea, but I'm not sure I understand it, probably due to the assumption that such a being even exists, despite the lack of proof for it.

A rather simple question in response to that: Why?

I don't mean for that to come across as insulting. I'm genuinely curious.

Well, why not?
No one has any proof that the Christian/Catholic/Jewish God exists.
So, I thought, why not?
So I did some research and found out, it actually makes as much sense as the other religions.

But at the same time, there's no proof that Ra exists either. If it makes as much sense as the other religions, that in turn means that it makes no sense. So "why not" as a reason for believing it sounds rather... silly.
