do what you feel makes you happy as long as you don't go break no laws, listen to paris hilton, work for the disney channel (lol). but in all seriousness as long as you do things that compromise your moral compass and can tell when enough is enough i say have at it. we've all sinned without a doubt what you do with the knowledge of what sin is up to you
We all "sin" because it has been arranged that it is impossible for us not to. "Sins" are all things that we cannot help but do. It's an insidious trap, but a clever one: make us feel guilt for things we are definitely going to do and will will come crawling back for forgiveness time after time. In monotheism it's based largely around sexuality. I've heard of other, tribal religions with the same trap, but based on food.
So wouldnt that mean everybody is going to "hell"?...
oh wait we'll all be forgivin if we believe in god and jesus right?
No, you have to repent to be forgiven of your sins.
and if we dont we're gonna spend the rest of eternity in flames just because what we did made us and others around us happy?
Sinning might make you happy while you're doing it, but in the end, the consequences of the sin will follow and make you not so happy anymore, such as abusing drugs, lying, cheating, stealing ect. will all have a negative effect.
Just because I choose not to follow god and jesus, I'm damned?
"Damned" means you cannot progress any farther to the Celestial kingdom, doing what you're doing, so technically, yes.
So even if I'm happy it doesnt matter?
The idea is that being worthy will bring joy and will allow you to live in the presense of God, but sin will only bring happiness temporarily and will falter your faith.
So what should I do? just be miserable and go to church on their day off?
You should pray earnestly for what you should do. I know that sounds preachy, but I strongly believe in prayer and that it brings inspiration. If you're miserable sitting in a church, that probably won't help much, will it? That won't put you in the right direction.
One of my friends have said that before, and I have to agree with her and you. Everyone has "sinned" and would go to "Hell" for it. We have all had our moments one plenty of the Seven Sins: Gluttony, Lust, Pride, Greed, Sloth, Envy, and Wrath. God must really love us if he created those "sins" that no one can avoid.
Going by the Bible you even sinned when posting this question: "do not doubt in the Lord" On the other hand it talks about freewill... somehow the almighty isn't very consistent. However rules of religion were written by men not god which gives you more freedom; after all you only sin against other human(s) and not god. But if you happen to end up in hell, stop by - some of us had already made a reservation down there.
As a former believer, I can say that my denomination taught that we are always sinning all the time simply by being human. We are unworthy and unclean. Because some lady and her boyfriend ate a fruit offered to them by a talking reptile
But, since god cheated the system he created by killing his immortal son who is actually himself to be a scapegoat to humanity, you can live in sin but ask for forgiveness and get a free ticket into heaven (which, if you really think about it, is a terrible place)
And that is why I will forever be mentally scarred by my childhood indoctrination into christianity. Thank man I was able to escape
A girl who is actually a rib is offered fruit by a talking snake. People still believe this. It is 2012. We have sent robots to Mars. Yet people still believe that humanity started with only two people, except the female was actually the rib of the male
I don't really recall any time I have sinned... But that's not the point.
The point is... what really matters? Does it matter to anyone if you go to church? Do you believe that you are a good person? I think that God favour people who try to be good people and those who are worthy. And it doesn't mean that you have to go to church every sunday and do what you are told by priests who are worse sinners than you.
I agree with everything you said. I'm agnostic but I do what makes me happy and whatever. I'm going to hell anyway so might as well enjoy myself. I'm not gonna be a mindless sheep and do what a story book says what is and is not right.
In my opinion, the best solution is: 1.) Ignore church, all religion and the idea of life after death and 2.) Recognize that none of us are perfect, so we have to be lenient towards each other and, at the same time, try to improve ourselves all the time if we want this world to become a better place.
