Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God? - Epicurus [341–270 B.C.]
Ah, the famous riddle of Epicurus, one of my favorite refutations of the Judeo-Christian Gods so-called goodness. Te great thing about it is that it doesn't matter which testament of the bible it is directed at either, since it has to do with the evil of today*.
* Example of some evils: -Murder -Genocide -Rape -Famine -Disease -War
In George Carlins words: "These things do not belong on the resume of a supreme being. It belong with an office 10th with a bad attitude." Note: Quote may not be entirely correct, but the basic message is there.
Yes, and humans have tried doing that loads of times, but he is not answering. Actually, when I think about it there is no address, no phone number, no fax, no chatroom or any form of communication available to contact this designer. I am starting to feel I am being conned everytime people talk about this designer. Maybe he is a legend; Everyone has heard about him, but no one has seen him...
Some feel as though just our existence is enough proof, but I feel like that's using the bible to validate what's inside of the bible. But yes, it does seem as though we're in the same boat.
Yes, I am a bit tired of the Watchmaker argument, since it pressumes that the universe must have a creator. A stance that is not justifiable at this point. Actually, all the arguments I have heard in favor of God(with the exception of all the bad things that happened after Rick Perry's prayraganza XD )pressumes a creator or abstract purpose
Gah... It bothers me that people find that to be a valid argument -_- It doesn't hold up if you let loose the scientific method on it, so in my mind it fails.
Keep in mind that I don't think the Yahweh of the Bible exists. I think that he exists only in the demented imagination of Christians.
That being said, the Christian view on Yahweh is one of tyranny and control. He setup this set of Saw movie like Booby traps to torture people forever in a place like Hell, aand the only slim hope you have of escaping his condemnation is to worship him forever and tell him how great he is.
Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent.
Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil?
Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?
- Epicurus [341–270 B.C.]
I found this quote in my wanderings. Responses?
