Well apparently it helps to lose weight too, but the main reason people are vegetarians is because they believe in those ideals, that animals are here to be respected, not eaten and kept in bad conditions.
It's a life choice.
Depends on how you look at it, but I can't see it being a ''bad thing''

Oh, absolutely it can be a "bad thing".. Be vegetarian mean don't eat first of all meat, but also fish and eggs. I think that is a very personal choice, who have to reflex a life style.
Being vegeterians isn't bad for health, my parent's are vegetarians since '88, and they have really great one, so...

don't forget cheeses and milk, and jello I don't know how much Jello is present in your culture-

You need to decide for your self, and I would suggest seeing a doctor before trying it so he/she can help you get all the things you need in a vegetarian diet, oils and fats that you consume as a matter of course in eating meat.

and as a Vegan you may choose the level of what you do..
i.e. You don't eat red meat, pork, or poultry, but do eat fish, eggs, and milk
You don't eat red meat, pork, poultry, eggs , or milk but do eat fish
Youdon't eat red meat, pork, poultry, eggs , milk, or fish
May you'll choose to eat "nothing with lips" like chicken and some fish, and eggs, and milk...

My father is a Butcher, so I grew up believing eating me is ok, I all was raised that if was fine if I didn't want to eat meat (a rare thing among butcher's kids) and even tried the vegan life style for a while, but just LIKE meat... still I may go a week or two between "red meat" servings and some times without any added chicken or fish. Cheese, I could not give up cheese or milk, so I don't try.

it depends on what kind of vegetables/fruits you eat, in order of staying thin. Just because you dont eat meat, doesnt mean that you wouldnt get fat. Some fruits are one frigging greasebombs, which will make you fat very fastly, if you eat too many of them.

Also, humans eat all kinds of stuff. Meat has some crucial things in it which human needs for his/her body. Thats why vegetarians should at least find that important thing from something else, since fruits and vegetables dont have it.

The most healthiest food thing you can have, is the food pyramid with as many different kinds of food as possible. Fish, eggs, salad, milk, cheese, meat, vegetables, fruits etc.

I've been a vegetarian for a bit more than three years now and I have not yet found anything bad about it.

.... 'Good thing'? What in this world is a 'good thing' anymore? Every choice has it's pros and cons. It all comes down to what you believe in. However, as a vegetarian, it is more difficult to maintain vitamin and mineral balances, and it requires special attention to your diet. Vitamin supplements and the like will help in the short term, but long-term decisions require that you figure out which foods have what percentage of your daily value of a certain mineral. Balancing your life, basically.

I've been a vegetarian a bit over 4 years, myself. Watch your protein, iron and calcium levels. A multi-vitamin and beans and nuts will keep you happy and healthy,if you choose to become one.

Being a vegetarian is great for the body, but it can be a little hard to find things to eat when you go out to dinner. If you ever need help, feel free to note me.
