I was given the name "Nikhil Kartha" and it has lots of meaning (technically, "Lord of entire-ity") but is it wrong that I want to be addressed as "Nick"?
I mean, when I introduce myself as "Nick", people look at me like I don't like my religion or something and it makes me feel wierd...it's somewhat embarrasing?
My favorite channel growing up was Nickelodean and I guess that's from where I got the idea to just being called "Nick" (nick, nick, nick, nick, nicknicknicknick, nickelodeanXD)
and many of my favorite fictinal characters were named Nick and it just felt nice.
I'm seriously not trying to be some sort of poser nor am I trying to look cool.
Sure, it's not really necassary to shorten my name as it's already short but it sometimes just makes me feel uncomfortable being called "Nick-Hill"
So I drop the "Hill", I don't get why some people have to look down at me for that.
It's not like I'm changing my name, it's just that I want a "nick"name so I feel a bit more loved and i guess more comfortable with interactions.
It's a big deal but I just want to know WHY exactly it is people make fun of me for that.
So, tell me, why is it?

Hmm...Well, I don't believe people should look down on you for it. I agree with you about just wanting a shorter name or a nickname to feel more loved. My name is Alison and some people call me Ali, and some don't. I don't mind either way. It's not that I don't like my name, but those closest to me just prefer to give me that nickname. My point, people shouldn't just assume you don't like your name. You have the right to go by whatever name makes you feel the most comfortable. Or just tell people you don't mind either way, whatever they want to call you. It is your name after all :)

Dude, use the name that you think fits your personality. I have a short name that I shortened even more because my original name is sort of stuffy and sounds older than I am. Only my parents and people at work call me by my full name.

No matter who you are, no matter what you do. There are always going to people that love you for it and hate you for it. I knew a few girls who went by the name billy, one who went by bob.

Nick isn't bad, it's just weird to some people because it's not a "girls name" so they "tease" you in an attempt to make your name more normal. I don't know I like Nikhil better actually, sounds like it should be ni-kil rather than nick-hill. But obviously you like nick more so find people who agree with you. You can also give a person options on what to call you like "hello, I'm nick, but you can call me Nikhil or Nika" I don't know something like that.

If they make fun of you then ignore them. If you want to be called Nick then it's up to you

sometimes people just create "nicknames" so that they can be comfortable when calling the other people.

so what if they are not comfortable with it? well, they make fun of it instead.

maybe the nickname that you chose is not quite...appropriate, or the nickname makes them uncomfortable, or maybe the nickname is just... unique to them? if you're really curious, why don't you just ask those people who make fun of your name?

this is just my theory though, because human thinking patterns are too complicated at times. but nick is a good name though, so don't be sad ;;; :iconcoolplz:

i don't see an obvious reason why people would make fun of you, they must just be the type to make fun of things because they're weird of have problems

nick is a cool name and you have plenty of personal feelings invested in it, which is important

just know that they are being silly

I like the name Nick. Don't listen to what those people say. It is YOUR name. You can do with it as you please. My real name is Emma, but I prefer to be called ED or Edward because I am a tomboy and all of my friends are guys. People look at me weird when I tell them that I prefer to be called Ed when I'm clearly a girl, but I do it anyway because I feel comfortable being called that over my real name. At the end of the day it is you name and it is what you are being comfortable being called so just keep being you. Ignore the negative influences in your life. Just pay attention to the people who support you.

Making fun of somebody's name is obviously a sign of immaturity. I went through the same thing.
My name is Cassidy in real life and people often make fun of me because my name has the word "ass" in it.
I think your name is nice and you should be happy with the one you have ecause it's unique and last time I check it's not overused. When I say 'overused' names, I mean the really popular names. :)

Just tell people that you want to be addressed either as God or Nick, whichever feels more intimate to them. :D
