So im a 21yo Marine stationed in Norfolk, Va.
I've been in for a little over 3 years have 2 years left and for the last 2 any document where I've had to state my religion, I have put Jedi.
I've always loved Star Wars and haven't belonged to a religion since I was 8. So as a joke instead of just putting N/A in the box I started putting Jedi. It's in my medical records now and on my permenant records for my career. This doesnt bother me at all.
This past friday I was ordered to my chaplain's office (which is a free shrink in the military pretty much) and from what I could gander from his questions he was trying to see how strongly I believed I was a Jedi....let's just say he soon realized I was strong with the Force and able to argue the system of the Jedi beliefs in a logical and respectable way and saying I live by the code, reciting it even, and what not.
I soon started to believe the bullshit I was saying playing the part in a cascading tidal wave of awesome nerdom. This is too funny to stop. I might start wearing my lightsaber hilt clipped to my belt.
As i leaned over his desk to shake his hand goodbye(and to envade his personal space) I saw his notes and one part clearly read "SNM (Said Name Marine)may be losing touch with reality."
OK I could fathom why he could come to that conclusion. But, How is Jedi a rediculous set of moral codes to follow while there is a large group of Scientology followers (Navy Personell) working down the hall? It's not like I think the events of the Star Wars Universe have ever taken place in any actual reality.
So my question is, should I risk my career and harsh persacution for the sake of Jedi Equal Rights? Or repent and just go back and put N/A in all the boxes?

and yes even my dog tags say Jedi on them...

Well, two possibilities :

- Screw the rules, you have the Force with you. Do it for the awesome factor and stuff.

- Put N/A in those boxes and avoid the drama (kind of ironic considering that scientology group)...

The Force is my ally (not the dark creepy kind but the friend in a fight kind. the correct spelling alludes me at the momment)
and if they do discarge me I could always sue them for religious prejudice once i get out.

Sounds like a bad joke, at least with serious people.
Better fix that while you can. That is, if you do expect something great from your future.

Fine it's a joke, some laugh - some didn't. But don't drag that for too long or you'll lose your career for straight jacket.

While your response shows great wisdom, it doesnt take into account that i don't believe Star Wars is real at all and is clearly fictional. and the belief structure that is present in this fictional universe is just as sound and a little more sane than other belief systems in other fictional story such as scientology, christianity, etc etc

Because the Force isn't real. It's fine to say you follow the Jedi code, which is a pretty decent set of moral rules. But when you start going on about the Force and carrying a lightsaber, people are going to think you're delusional. Probably because at that point, you pretty much are.

I'm the unoffical dA sexpert. Have a sexy question you don't want public? Drop me a line.
:iconankooru:
That's another thing.
I doubt they'll question you to see how sane you are before you're out.
Unless you can tell them first?

While any other religion you named is fictional as you say, it did gain more respect and belief than Jedi.

A reasonable rebuttal is "Scientology"
