I was also diagnosed with adult onset schizophrenia a few years ago. My mother is also schizophrenic. Her's also came about in early adulthood.

Lately, it is getting much more overwhelming than it was. Im afraid to tell my friends because alot of stigma comes with the illness and Im afraid they wont understand. However, it would explain much of my behaviour to them.

It's getting so bad lately I cant maintain jobs and relationships. It might become so bad I wont be able to function in the outside world and will need to live in a hospital. I just dont like the thought of needing to live in one of those sometimes and it makes me feel like somesorta freak.

Does anybody have any personal experience with schizophrenia either in yourself or a loved one?

No personal experience from me, except that an organisation for people with schizophrenia once held a lecture that I attended. What I remember is that schizophrenia requires that the person suffering from it seek stress-free environments... especially in the home, which is where you rest. One person there had everything in his room white. no contrast. He felt it very restful, and it helped him.
dunno if that helps any, but there's what I know. Good luck!

Yeah, stress free environments help alot. If I walk into the wrong room I get an impending sense of doom and I have to go outside. Flourescent lights and large empty rooms freak me out.

I prefer it like this moroccan restaraunt I went to once. It had very subdued lighting, many pillows on the ground and brass things and mostly reds blues and greens. Places like that make me feel most at ease.

My father had schizophrenia. Id say if your having problems be assertive and firm and talk to your clinician and advocate for yourself a change in drug therapy. The right drug therapy can all but eliminate schizophrenia symptoms.

Hmm, so what made you perform poorly on the outside world that made you lose relationship and work? Delusions? Voices??

I just want to learn how the negative psycho phenomenons affect you and in that way, you may find out how to combat them.

so try to get that atmosphere into your life as much as possible. clutterfree and restful. What's your house like?
