I guess that´s an issue everyone would be interested in since diabetes and overweight is a crucial thingy to talk about. It´s actually not a personal problem - it´s rather a kind of information thread about "loosing-weight-methods which would work without getting the "yo-yo-effect", which means, eating even more after the doing the diet or suggested "loose-weight-method".
Well then... I´ve heard of many diets which assure loosing a little amount of weight - persistend, but you have to do the diet for a very long time - I guess, half a year or even longer. These diets presuppose a lots of sports in a week and of course, healthy food (fruits, veggies and so on.) I guess there´s even a diet form, where you have to dispence with carbohydrate - that means no bread and no noodles to eat! (Maybe that really would help, but my memory tells me that carbohydrates are pretty much important in the food chain O.o) Then, there are such funny methods like "Trimgel 3D" and "Slim Experts", which ensure to loose a great amount of weight in a short period of time - without doing sports and retaining eating habits. There are many comments and reports how fantastic these products work, but that rather seems like fake to me.
So my question to all of you is: What do you think about loosing weight? Is it better to use the diet- method or drink or swallow wonder-pills on purpose to loose weight as soon as possible? And do you have any experiences with it?
I´d be really thankful for any participation in this thread

yo-yo happens when you lose weight too fast. You should not lose more than two pounds a week or you're not going to be able to keep it up.
Binging (eating too much after a diet) happens when you completely restrict yourself of delicious food.
To prevent both of these from happening, you have to get off the 'diet' fad, and make small changes to your life and make them PERMANENT. This means, stop drinking pop/juice for every meal and switch to water. Make your portions smaller - most of us just eat too much and feel 'groggy' after dinner (I know I do). Gradually add more physical activity to your week (if you hate exercise like me, take up some fun habit like swimming with friends at a pool, or rollerblading in the summer).
Eventually with the small easy changes you can make bigger changes later.
Lots of people will bounce back when they try to starve themselves out of weight.
The thing about most people's weight gain is that they're eating lots of artificial chemicals and preservatives that their body doesn't know how to break down. Instead of just throwing it out immediately, the body tries to store it, and it becomes fat.
The best way to lose weight without problems is simply to revise your diet. Start relying on food that hasn't been processed or dunked in preservatives, cut most of the meat out of your diet, stay away from soda and the like. Best and easiest way for normal people to get into weight loss, and they'll feel one hell of a lot better later.
There are, of course, exceptions for people who have chemical problems, and their bodies simply don't burn fat...they may require pills to regulate things, but not the "SWALLOW THIS PILL AND LOSE 90 POUNDS! THIS FAMOUS PERSON DID!" kind.

Wow. So it really is appropriate to stay on the healthy line - eating bio products and drink a lot of water for example? I also thought about being a vegetarian - but I don´t think that I could do it without any meat in a year O.o Somehow, I think, people really need meat - at least just a little bit for the proteins in the muscles and the iron content of the blood.
But there´s one question I´d like to ask: Why staying away from soda? Do you mean soft drinks like coca cola or sprite or do you really think of "soda" like mineral water?

You have to change your lifestyle to keep the weight off, to be totally honest. Eat healthier food, drink more water, stay away from soda and other things with high fructose corn syrup. Cook for yourself, it's healthier and you control what goes into it.
Diets don't really work, not in the long term. Sure, doing a week long diet might help jump start some weight loss, but you'll have to change your eating habits afterwards in order to keep the weight off.

Hmm... That site has really some good issues to look at
Thanks for the clear explanation of yo-yo and binging - I never knew of the word "binging", it kinda reminds me of fasting or is it even the same?
Hmm... I always prefer to drink water since it´s the only drink I really like - all the other stuff like coca cola, fanta and even sometimes fruit juices (if they aren´t fresh prepared) won´t do my stomach very well. The actual problem seems to be "eating too much at the evening" - well, dinner. Of course, this could be avoided, if I´d have a balanced eating behaviour.
I´ve heard people should eat about 5 meals a day, two of them are a greater meal - such like breakfast, lunch; the other three meals should be just like snacks. Isn´t that rather unfavourable?
Erm.. Yeah. I really like rollerblading a lot. But I hate swimming (I hate the water... ) Though I also heard that swimming might be the best method to reduce weight...

Well, I solved that problem about soda and syrup drinks pretty early - I only drink water and teas for ages Hmm... Cooking might be interesting. Since I´m not very confident in cooking, I never did that, cause my mom does that, why I´m still studying at the university.... Erm... (Well, that was pretty embarrasing to tell, but... Never mind )
Guess, it´s really hard to keep the weight off permanently, huh? O.o

It can be, but if you change your lifestyle bit by bit, you'd be surprised how easy it actually is.
You can do a lot of little things, like take the stairs instead of an elevator or park farther back in a parking lot and just walk instead of trying to find a closer parking space. It really does add up after a while. Plus, you feel a lot better once you stop eating nasty processed food and start eating more fresh fruit and vegetables and good lean meat and whatnot, especially if you just start walking more along with it. You'll sleep better, have more energy, your skin and hair will look better, and really, once you get those benefits, it's really easy to stick with the healthy eating habits.

human beings are, anatomically speaking, vegan animals. And yes it is easy to get the proper nutrition and infact vegans are healthier overall than people who arent. I even seen a commerical on PBS while my kid was watching cartoons it said " feed your children a vegan diet because eating meat causes cancer, diabetes, and impotence later in life brought to you by the national medical foundation for responsible medicine" or something like that. i was shocked that they're starting to realise that being vegan is the healthiest choice as humans. if we were meant to eat meat...we'd have large fangs to take down prey, claws, and we would salivate when we drove by roadkill.
