Do you ever not want to draw or paint because you keep thinking your not good enough? I dunno its weird, hard to explain what i mean.
I guess its like anticipating yourself.

Does anyone else experience this?

Oh man i actually posted this in the 'dAmn' section too, and i just realised that is for technial issues xD lol

Yes, I can relate to the feeling. I dont think artist every thing they are "good". The thing that keeps us going is the need to improve our skills. Each piece becomes a challenge.

"I record here the hysteria life causes in me. To hell with taste and art, with all contractions and polishings. Here I shout, I dance, I weep, I gnash my teeth, I go mad -- all by myself, in bad English, in chaos. It will keep me sane for the world and f

I have that need, i mean i just look at other peoples work and it really inspires me. Makes me wanna pick up my Wacom pen and paint all day, but when it comes to doing it i just get this hollow feeling like i'll never be able to compare to their skill level.

I know the only way to get better at art, is to just actually do it.
How can i over come this feeling?

I had exactly the kind of a problem! Exactly.

First, try to paint the picture in your mind,
then copy it to the paper/wacom.
This did not help me much, first.

Then try to find your style.
Yo know KrisWilson? The one with cyanide and happiness comix?
He absolutely sux at realistick drawings, but his comix are amusing and well-known.

Then, when you have found the style you enjoy, you may try other styles time after time, and get better, without feeling the need of pushing yourself to the anticipated result.

So your saying you just started to draw all the pictures that were floating around in your mind?
Then you found a style you were so comfortable with you could just paint without a care in the world?

I guess it does make sense, like finding your own self instead of trying to imitate others.

Soooooo, how did you deal with it?
*Taddle:iconTaddle: Mar 28, 2008, 8:34:47 AM
Yeah. Like you feel everything you draw sucks, especially when in comparison to everything else. I'm pretty sure most every artist has gone through that phase at least once in their life. Thing is to keep trying, or quit while you're ahead.
~Nelly-Jelly:iconNelly-Jelly: Mar 28, 2008, 8:44:03 AM
Yeah same here. I have that feeling everytime I draw something I've set my mind too. Everytime I feel as if they've really sucked. All artists do go through that. But you just gotta not give up. Heck, I'm only 12 so I got a looooong road ahead of me ^^"

Just try not to think your drawing suck. You will improve if you keep trying. Compare your drawing to you past drawings to see if you've improved. Don't comapre it to anyone else's. Just your own.
