My friend is addicted to smoking, and I can see that it's ruining him slowly. He coughs a lot and smokes like a chimney. I've tried talking to him about it, but he doesn't seem too phased and tells me not to worry. What doesn't help is all the 'Stop smoking' commercials that are popping up on TV
I'm just very worried about our friendship being cut short. He's always there for me and we're pretty close, and if that's taken away from me it'll be another strike from a bus. Any suggestions as to how I can get him to tone it down or quit altogether?

You can learn many things from children; how much patience you have for instance.
You can't stop him. Don't try. Ask him not to smoke around you, however.
Quitting smoking is rather like losing weight- kind of difficult, and you can't do it successfully and long-term because someone else wants you to. It's a personal decision.
u told this dude ur fearing for the friendship. . . n also the whole lung cancer thing and the rest although deadly isn't as common as people make it seem. don't get so hung up on the guy dying. if something did happen to him, would you want to remember ur last weeks laughing as mates or you lecturing him about smoking???
Unless he wants to actually quit smoking himself, you'll just be banging your head against a brick wall but maybe you could tell him not to smoke near you or other friends and also buy nicotine gum and patches. Hope it helps
I fear for it because I can see that he's already suffering...I don't want to see our friendship ending anytime soon.
