Maybe they don't have time. Maybe they don't know what to say in response to something as pathetically unhelpful as "good job". Maybe, although they haven't mentioned it, they're busy. Or maybe they just don't want to recycle "Thankyou" comments all the time.

If you get a comment like "lol" to a deviation, how the fuck do you reply to that?
I appreciate everyone who gives me comments and try replying to each and every one of them, but for God's sake you're being ridiculous.

I didn't used to reply to any comments. I'm not sure why I didn't, I just didn't think I suppose. It wasn't out of ego, out of malice, or out of arrogance, I just didn't think. I commented on other people's pictures instead.
These days, I comment back as much as I can. Comment on every one left on my journal, and thoughtful comments. I would not reply to "haha!", "good job!", "nice" or ANY one-worded comments... because it actually pisses me off to see an entire page taken up with the artist replying to every little thing.
You comment because YOU like it. You DON'T comment just so you get something back out of it. If you do, that's always a plus, but it shouldn't be to stroke your sodding ego either. It does piss me off when I see artists who never reply to anything, even long, near-essay-long comments left on their pieces, but this isn't the case here. I wouldn't reply to your comments, and I actually try to make an effort these days.

I'm NOT talking about people like ~flying-polock who have clarified that he does his artwork for living and he mostly don't have the time to reply.
I'm talking about those who don't appreciate the people who appreciate their art. To me, that kind of deviants is not worthy of respect. They don't deserve the appreciation and support we're giving them by leaving a single "Good job." comment on their filth that they call, or we might take by mistake as, art.
It takes less than a split second to reply to those comments so why the hell don't you reply? Is it really that hard to communicate with the people who think your art is good? Or does it fill up your ego?
And just to clarify ~flying-polock started to communicate with his fans more often even with his lack of time. What an honorable man.
I'm starting my own campaign...
From now on if I don't see any replies to comments on someone's profile/deviation I will never comment/fav or contribute in anything relating to that so-called deviant.
No one would probably give a damn. Don't worry, I too don't give a shit if you agree or not, I just want to get this off my chest.
And yes, I am being fucking judgmental. Go knock your head on wall or something.
