DA's search engine sucks dude! Update the database already!

Can't you guys program spiders or something to constantly update the search database?!! I'm only getting really dated stuff. What good are keywords if nobody is going to see our stuff anyways?!

:roll: This has absolutely nothing to do with dA but more with its users.. As a user you decide what keywords you put in your deviations... some users enter random words to get more hits.

The problem lies with the keywords.. and don't think a search on deviation title will improve it.. Do you know how many deviations share the same name on this site.

Do you take the time to put a lot of clear and concise keywords on your deviations?

If not- you're part of the problem too buddy.
If so- you're one of the few.

Don't blame dA, blame lazy people.

I use my screen name as one of my key words and they still don't show up. But I understand it takes alot of time to update the probably 1 million+ key words a day.

Actually no, the search database hasn't been updated since last september.

Doesn't mean it's as simple as the OP makes out to fix it, but he is right that it seriously needs updating.

I doubt very much it's as simple as 'just programming a spider'. The search has been in production for around 2 years, and dA's programmers are constantly busy with other projects, currently, for example, paginating the forums, and working on the systems behind the new version of the site.

While it could DEFINITELY do with updating, it's a low priority task, and there are many more important jobs.
