I, quite frankly, am sick of these Katrina "Victims." I live in Houston, Texas, where we have acquired more than 250,000 (!!!!!!!!!!) new populates from the Katrina hurricane. These people are primarily black and try to use this to gain sympathy and free things from FEMA. Now...I recall seeing somewhere that there were actually more white people harmed by Katrina than black people, but they seem to be making this into a matter of race. Also, I don't want 250,000 trashy new people crowding my city, taking my tax dollars with all these counterfeit social security numbers (they use these to get multiple FEMA checks) and causing so many problems (there is a HUGE amount of problems caused by these people still occurring today). I'm not saying only New Orleans people cause problems, but if they are doing this then they don't need to live here. If it was up to me, I'd have them all shipped back to where they came from, but they all seem to want to stay here because they get everything they need free, and if they don't they try to push the fact that they were "victims" of Katrina in people's faces to get sympathy or whatever else they want. There should be a Holocaust for Katrina people.
Okay, fror starters I'd like to reccomend that you try losing everything you own, your home, your pets, your job, your FRIENDS, every place you ever hung out, shopped, sought support did ANYTHING, THEN you can judge my fellow displaced New Orleanians.
I for one would MUCH rather be shipped back to where I came from ( a nice house filled with my possessions, photos, memories etc) than stay in freezing cold New Jersey where I NEVER wanted to live. Surrounded by people who have nothing in common with my family.
I'm sure the people you are complaining about would be just as happy to leave Houston as I would be to leave NJ. More so, as my friends who were in Houston for evacuation decided they'd rather live in a TENT in New Orleans whule their house was worked on than spend another second in your fine city.
If they're staying in Houston, it's because they have no home to go back to.
Yeah, why bother helping them? It doesn't matter if they struggled to save their lives and the lives of their familes in the most horrible, destructive and disasterous tragedy that America has experienced since September 11. They don't have a right to complain. Hell no, especially if they're black. Damn, you spicy Texans should just either round 'em up and kick their asses out or hang 'em high somewhere.
The thing that made me really agnry was a story I read when this thing first happened.
Colorado sent a Grey Hound bus over there to pick up a bus load of victims and bring them back to Colorado. When they got there, groupd of people would come to get on. When they asked where they were going, and they heard Colorado, they wouldn't go because they didn't wat to be cold and stuck in the piles of snow. They would rather stay in those horrible conditions than come to a place where they can be safe! Also, this was during the summer when Colorado is actually very warm, no snow to be found, even in some of the highest peaks!
arg.... i cant believe i just read the entire thread... its 4:30 am here >_<
i really cant comment much on this, since i have not experienced Katrina victims, nor do i live in texas.
however, you seem to be singling out the katrina victims as the single source of your city's problems.
Every city has homeless people, every city has scammers or outlaws, and you are not the only one who pays taxes.
if you seriously have a problem with them, take it to your local MP or file a formal complaint. Ranting about it on a forum in an art site will not help you, and will probably get you flamed.
Oh, and whether its a racial issue or not, its still quite offensive to be calling people trash. You are obviously a person who is better off than them, so i figure whatever nice things they can get, let them (they might have louis vuiton purses, but they probably dont have internet or something else. its gain one, lose another. and those purses are probably knock-offs, as the real thing costs alot of money)
and who are you to judge their choices in actions? you will probably never know what its like to lose everything you've ever had in a blink of an eye, and face the world, trying to gain back all the things you've lost (that are replaceable. Imagine all the priceless things that were lost)
If you are a troll, you have a serious chip on your shoulder. if not, you still have a serious chip on your shoulder.
There isn't a solution here. look for it elsewhere.
btw. retorting to people's arguements be telling them to "just shut up" (which you've done several times) does not help you in your arguement, nor does it actually get them to shut up. If you want to silence them, present them a constructive, and unfailable arguement.
i'm not calling them trash because they have lost their belongings, i am calling them trash because they are quite nasty and they are just freeloading, basically. i'm not singling them out...i know that there are plenty of criminals in my city...however, getting 250,000 new people, it's obvious that the crime rate will jump hugely, especially when they're from a city like new orleans and when most of them are just so...them. and it's not just knock-off purses and stuff...katrina related things are in the news constantly. these people scam FEMA out of thousands of extra dollars and are buying big screen plasma HD tvs, all kinds of new expensive designer things, and other things they really shouldn't be wasting money (that isn't even rightfully theirs in the first place) on all that stuff they don't need to survive. not only are they freeloading, though, but since they came to this city there have been countless incidents of problems involving these people, like gang things and especially things in middle and high schools. there are constantly riots in schools and one kid was even shot. it's hard for someone who doesn't live in a place that was affected so heavily as my city to say that they aren't doing anything bad. from the first day katrina hit, i've seen a huge increase of squallor in my city. EVERYONE here has seen it. now my city is not known for being clean and pleasant...it's a huge city, but it has definitely gotten worse since katrina. god forbid i EVER end up downtown at night with any female or just by myself, and i have to go there to catch the train...it is like a fucking action movie. there are people laying all around the sidewalkds, people fighting, people yelling at me for some reason only god knows, people trying to pick up the girl i may be with...it is insanity. it was NEVER this bad. and they seem to think they can push their weight around because of their situation. my mother works for a doctor, and she tells me that she sees many many many katrina people who try to get treated for FREE using the excuse that all of their records were lost in that hurricane. now...the people here are those who heard about how bad the hurricane would be long in advance and crowded the highways to evacuate...they obviously had time to gather all their information and necessities and they're quite stupid if they just forgot, but i don't think that's the case. these people weren't around when the hurricane hit. the ones who were are probably all dead. i'm not looking for a solution here, i'm COMPLAINING, which is what this forum is for, isn't it? i think telling them to shut up gets the point across because they really don't know anything...but i guess i can't say i was completely right because people just kept calling me a troll.
I live in Texas, Dallas area, and I back you 100% on this. While we didn't get quite as many as Houston did...people need to wake up and realize that the system is being taken advantage of. They're freeloading the system that feeds them better here than it does back in NO, mooching off bleeding heart sympathies. The thing is, they don't want to go back, because going back means giving up all the extra freebies. Guess what--they're not spending that free money they've been given on things that would be considered necessities. It's in the news somewhere, though I don't know where my roommate found it or else I'd share. I realize that most people here only see blind sympathy for the people affected by it, but realize something--New Orleans wasn't exactly the richest town in the world. I've known people who have lived there for many years. It was a corrupt city populated by people who had been on welfare for generations. They'll move wherever the handouts are.
I know I'm probably getting flamed for this by someone, and I really don't care. Obviously you're not having to deal with the direct effects.
