Censor THIS, You Bitch!

About a week ago, a self-righteous prick tried to have a series of comics forcefully removed from her college English course, as well as from the school entirely because she, and her parents (CUT the fucking umbilical cord!) were troubled by these "pornographic" books.

www.heavymetal.com/news/studen…
(side-note: read The Long Halloween and Dark Victory and you'll see that even Batman & Robin comics can get extremely violent)

Neil Gaiman's Sandman, Alison Bechdel's Fun Home, Marjane Satrapi's Persepolis, and Y: The Last Man.  I've read all of Neil Gaiman's Sandman, as most of you are aware, and that's not pornography.  It's still DC comics, so OF COURSE it's not pornography, and their Vertigo branch is at the most the equivalent of a R-Rated movie.  I've read Bechdel's Fun Home and it's an autobiographical story, sometimes even a confessional, and it's an invaluable psychological insight on a lesbian woman's experience growing up with herself and her family issues, so OF COURSE you're going to get sexual references, you twat!  How DARE someone have the courage to tell their life story, even the awkward and upsetting and other personal bits (but still not pornography).  Life isn't a Disney movie, kid.

But I haven't read the other half of the proposed chopping block, and because my College proudly contains an exceptional comic section in its library, I checked out both books of Persepolis (Y: The Last Man is scheduled for next week).  Wouldn'cha know, NO pornography!  Sure, a man gets pissed on during a reminiscence of a torture session, but TORTURE upon Iranian citizens during the wars throughout the 70s and 80s!?  Noooo, y'don't say!  Or maybe she's just pissed that the Iranian people in the books aren't depicted as a bunch of fanatical terrorist zealots like they're supposed to be.  What the Hell is Satrapi trying to do, EDUCATE us on how Iranians really are as if she were actually THERE when it all happe-ohhhhhhhh....riiiiiight.  Whoops.

But seriously, Persepolis is friggin' amazing and if the sheltered mega-bitch or her family actually READ it, then maybe she'd get an actual understanding of the dangers of censorship.  Still, I have to thank this prudish asshole and her parents, because funny thing about trying to ban a book, even if it's just at one college: you just end up giving it free advertising, and you've just given me more books to enjoy.  So lady, why don't you come right up to my armpit and KISS MY ASS (those who have read the book will get it).

So yeah, just because you're a sheltered little piss-baby doesn't mean that the rest of the world has to be.  Never push your insecurities onto others.  This is exactly the reason why these books are part of college courses.  This isn't high school anymore, cupcake.  You either learn to play with the big kids, or you can go back home and cry to mama.

TL;DR: “At most I would like the books eradicated from the system. I don’t want them taught anymore. I don’t want anyone else to have to read this garbage.”

:iconsean-conneryplz::iconsaysplz: Goose-stepping morons like yourself should try READING books instead of BURNING them!

Anti-Complaint: My English class this summer semester is actually REALLY fuckin' amazing so far!

Second Anti-Complaint: I think I have my next Self-Righteous Prick Fairy idea.

Persepolis? Really?

That's the only one I've read, and I'm floored that anyone would object to it. It is exactly the sort of story you would study in a classroom setting. Never mind that college plays by a completely different set of rules than grade level education. Of course there are going to be adult themes popping up in your lectures, the classes are for adults! Girl needs to pull that stick out of her butt and realize that the world is not going to cater to her shelteredness.

Even dumber was her crybaby reaction of thinking it would "be like batman and robin".

Not only is she saying that comics should only be about stupid superheroes and not be allowed to be about anything actually intelligent (as in controversial), but she has no idea how even Batman comics on rare occasion can be more than a stupid male wish-fulfillment fantasy, and they can even be quite violent.  Which is good, because The Long Halloween is one of the best damn things I've read in my life and I've even kept a passage from it as my signature for years, heh.

I always love it when people try to compare something they don't like to another thing they don't actually know a thing about. You see it all the time in regards to cartoons. "What's this Family Guy show? Well, it's bright and colorful and animated, I guess it's okay for my five-year-old to watch it!"

An even better example would be Plague Dogs.

Not all cartoons are tools to shut your kids up for 90 minutes!

There is some nudity and some sexual themes in Y: The Last Man, but it's absolutely not porn. I mean, if it is, it's really shitty porn.

I guess I could draw boobs on the characters heads to spice it up a bit.  Books are more fun with controversy, so boob-heads for all!

Ooh, someone make a graphic novel of Mein Kampf so I can boob-head Hitler rambling on for 14 hours!

Would make things more interesting for the next person to read it.

I would buy a copy of Mein Kamph:  Boob Edition in a heartbeat.

Or better yet, don't censor any of it.

No, it's just not being a hypocrite over prudish censorship issues.

Bert WTF  Make her choke on the pages.

But then others will have to wait for her to shit them out before they can read them.

*weighs hands*

Paying for the library to replace it vs. one less stupid c*nt in the world.

The thing I love about my school is it is Roman Catholic, and it has things in it ranging from the hunger games to stories about a girl under the control of her abusive incestous father, and a song of ice and fire (Self explanatory). Hell, we have Philip Pullman, which the district tried to ban for it's anti church tones. You go to school to learn and get exposure to new ideas, not be put in a protective little blankets.

Academic censorship of literature really gets my goat, for whatever reason. So, I'm glad it failed to take place here. That's cool that there is a graphic novel lit course.

Yet another young patronized crybaby using the law to censor shit just because they don't like it.  Society sure is on a roll, isn't it
sbkMulletMan's avatar
She didn't resort to legal actions at all (likely because she knew it wouldn't hold up).

She probably tried to scold the school the same way her mother would do her when she commanded her to do something.  Luckily, mommy's influence didn't extend much farther than the turd she squeezed out and decided to keep and name.

Some people are just over sensitive idiots who are too sheltered to determine what is actually porn and what isn't.

So, if a character shows any skin whatsoever, it's considered "pornographic?"
