there are too many books in the world, and it makes me sad I'll never even scratch the surface.

After severely cutting down my to-read list, I still have nearly solid year's worth of reading to do. and the thing is, my to-read list doesn't contain any books from authors I like, it's just books from authors I've never read before. if I add in the books of authors I like, I'd easily get a few years worth of reading, and I'm a glutton of punishment and I'm still seeking new authors and books.

at least I've taken to reading e-books mostly, which means most of the books are under 10 dollars, instead of the up to $40+ for new releases.

Get a kindle, before mine broke I got through tons on the train to work.

Secondly, why does it matter? If you have something to read you have something to read. If you didn't have anything you would be complaining. Mr Kurzweil and Google say I'm going to live forever, so I will need lots of books.

I have a kindle, and I have the kindle app on my computer and phone. :D

it doesn't matter really, but it does still annoy me. it's mostly when I'm trying to choose a new book to read. I don't want to waste money or time on a bad book, and i get overwhelmed by choice, but seeing as kindle does samples, the amount of wrong choices I've made has gone down, because usually I'm most picky with the start of a book, so if it's interesting from the start, I'm more likely to like it  so that does help.

Just curious, but why is that?

They're mostly porn related and I don't have a bookstore in town, or anything to read ebooks on, and I don't want to ask my parents to order them off the internet.

Aren't you old enough for VISA or whatever?

Yeah the hardest book I had to find was an English translation of Sade's Julliette.
Pokey-Bunny's avatar
I could, but I don't want to get a credit card that I wouldn't really use.

I can't imagine ever not having a visa (bank card), but hey if it works for you good on ya.

I never thought I would catch up in my animus and look at me now! 30+ series and 600+ episodes of One Piece with no skips (and all the movies) in like a year.  Sure I lost my vision but who cares.

Also in the words of Stephen King "Don't waste your time reading a bad book"- you've only got so much life, don't waste it on your dumb ass books, read a few good books and be satisfied. Most of those are probably horrible, and they won't share "wisdom" for being a book. It's a book- A BOOK.

I don't force myself to finish bad books, but I have to disagree that they're "mostly horrible". I tried about 7 books (and about 4 of them were free) that i didn't like and didn't finish. I have finished 21 books that I liked.

Books look interesting but it takes me too long..

In junior high and high school, I was next door to a library. I read 10 books a week. For 6 years. That's not even counting the reading I did when I was younger and in the years I've been working.

I'm still at less than a tiny fraction of all the books I would probably enjoy. :(

My suggestion is e-reading. There are lots of Internet sales where ebooks go on sale for a dollar.

Libraries, Dreary!

I work in a library so I get all my books for free. Being on staff means I never get fined. La la la la

I was on library staff too!  (2 years until I went to college)
All the books I could ever want, books shipped in from other libraries if we wanted, no fines....ahhhhh the perks of the job ^^

They are lovely perks! Especially if they were books that no one wanted to read. Can keep those out as long as I need to! La la la la

my library doesn't carry most of the books I'm interested in. :\

You are allowed to get a library card from a different town. I had 3.
