so i took a little sabbatical from the site...but now i am BACK!

I haven't painted in about a month but now I am working up the will power to sling some paint again. I purchased some paint, graphite sticks and 8 canvases. Usually when I take these breaks its like a creative recharge and my first few paintings when I start back up are stellar. So for the next few days I will be getting reaclamated to painting. Here's my complaint...for the most part about 60% of DA struggle to be decent artists but fall short of making good work. They will never be a good artist. Now in addition, 30% of DA has potential but there exist ambiguity whether they will make a substantial mark as an artist. Now, this complaint is for the remaining 10%. The remaining 10 are exceptional in their chosen style. They exbihit a unique ability as GREAT artists.  I don't know if I am in this number and i dont care, but if you are a stellar artist you owe it to yourself and to society to create art with substance. No one gives a fuck if you paint perfect realism or mix color flawlessly. You owe the 60% a voice given that they will never be at their level. You owe the 30% the inspiration to create uninhibitedly and not care about art as a means to an end. It is gross to assume that technical ability supercedes the passion to give meaning. We need a hero not a narcissistic egoist. 10% you are special. Create for the hopeless, create for the voiceless. And every one else, gtfo the way and know your role:)

I had a lovely conversation with a pornstar today about art.....

The end.

You know, people are allowed to draw what they want... regardless of whether you approve. So, instead of arguing with you, I'm going to continue to create art, call it art, and not give a shit whether you think it's "real art" or not. I don't take the opinions of egotistical art school drop-outs seriously. You're silly.

Because people totally shouldn't do something for fun or because they enjoy it.

You're implying you're in that 10%.

 So, here's what I learned about you- Anyone who you believe their art is 'shit' and yours is superior, you flame and don't even carry a real conversation with them other than repeatedly calling them 'shit'.

And, if someone obviously better than you, you decide to kiss their ass.

You really are a pathetic little guy you know that right?

You are part of the 60% you speak of.

In the beginning, it was. Now I just find it sad that you waste your time on giving bad tips to people and always using your own paintings as examples in a failed attempt to make advertisement instead of actually improving.
illastrat's avatar
you are just flaming. If someone posted as egotistical as me i would be like you. lol.
John--Vincent's avatar
Telling yourself and others that everyone who happens to disagree with you or finds flaws in the things that you do is a troll or is just flaming is a common and clear sign that you're either really narcissistic and can't believe there is a single flaw within you or that you're very insecure and attempting to live in outer denial.
illastrat's avatar
um..you said i was in the %60. Saying my art is flawed is one thing. ALL art is flawed...thats what makes it beautiful. But what you are doing is trying to undercut my art based on my character. Thats juvenile. Also, I've only been painting for 4 years and i am significantly better than people that have been painting for 10. Despite that, I am still learning.

Uhm... no. Just no. You are slightly above the level of one of my classmates' earliest attempts at acrylics.

Why would being good at art mean someone owes something to society? And why should less than brilliant artists have to stay quiet? Art is for everyone, anyone can be an artist, anyone can put out a message, but being good doesn't mean you should force it, or that you owe anything to anyone.
illastrat's avatar
Even if noobs didn't stay quiet they would be largely ignored like I ignore shitty artists on DA and buddy only the ones equal or better than me. Also, it is a brillant artist's obligation to be a voice for the ignored, silenced, and inspired artists. Its like a celebrity becoming famous. They are expected to take on a charity.
rj700's avatar
Being ignored doesn't mean they should stop, they do it because they like it. There's no obligation for art, it's silly to do something big and meaningful when the only reason for it is because you feel forced to do it. There's a difference between art "fame" and proper fame, and there's a difference between a celebrity giving money, or asking others to give money to a charity, and an artist putting his heart and soul into something that isn't "his" heart and soul.

Cool...but i think artists should challenge themselves and step out side their comfort zone
