Hey guys! Let's have Irish Reunification under the British crown

Earlier today one of my Facebook 'friends' (seriously should do a bit of spring cleaning on that list) announced that he suddenly joined the cause for the reunionfication of Ireland. One would think that he meant the idea of the entire island united as a full on republic. What he meant instead was reconquer the country under the British monarchy.

:iconcubaplz:

'After all the men that have DIED for Irish independance? Including Michael Collins and Aurthur Griffith?' I says to him.
'Collins was a terrorist anyway, Mark.'
'Collins was in the IRB, not IRA. Besides, the old IRA wasn't a terrorist group during the Irish War of Independance.'
'Doesn't matter! He still shot at the British people on British soil at the time'

Dude, the 1916 Rising was a coup d'etat, an act of TREASON, not terrorism. And the civil war was against the Irish Free State supporters and the old IRA, both of which were Irish parties and the latter, as I said, not a terrorist organisation at that time!
And even then, how the hell do you plan on taking over this country again? Do you seriously plan on invading a neutral nation and suffer a backlash from the UN? You really think the fact that a lot of good men gave their lives and died for what we have now is something to trivialise? I admit I wouldn't take a bullet for this country myself, but show a little respect for that at least. :L

And to you yanks out there who think that the Republic of Ireland is a part of the UK anyway, you're all adorable. =^.^=

Bonus complaint: Another yank on youtube was asking me why we don't 'take after them' and use more American terms and phrases since we apparently "hate on the British". Once again, adorable. :aww:

Yes please, we don't need to be ruled by the royals of England. We are perfectly happy as we are.

Man, the Irish are weird.

Hell, I'm like 20% Irish or something, and my parents insisted I watched the Secret of Roan Inish as a kid, and I'm weird as hell, and I know this.

Would totally go to Ireland, terrorism aside.

I think the only way you solve something like this is educating everyone about all of the history and let them decide their opinions then. So far, and I don't know whether you see this for you too, people's opinions stem from their parents opinions, which is why you get some really stupid ones sometimes.

I'm mostly hoping the hate gets more diluted and more diluted as time passes through generations. (On a lesser scale here, it'ls like my dad telling me I should be hating on the French, the Welsh and the Americans, but I really don't see the big friggin' deal. I'm hoping that same mentality will stick with the Irish and let bygones be bygones.) What whoever did and when is already done. They should stop being hateful for the past and concentrate on making the future, jeez.

Ireland is better off as it's own sovereignty. Even Scotland is going to have a referendum on leaving the UK. However, I do know that taking back N.I, will break us. This guy is a moron. Punch him in the face. =B

I'd love to.

Yeah, I'd feel kind of mixed myself about the idea of uniting with the north given that we're still in the aftermath of the Troubles (or the worst of it at least), but this guy clearly doesn't have his brain anywhere else then in his pants. :L

And yes they are awesome. Even their comedians such as Dara O'Briain.

I like Ireland, I'm british and i lived there for several years.  I would have a few serious things to say though about how Irish people treat british people who work there!  But all the same i liked it there despite the racism.
If ireland was to be re-unified i couldn't care less wether it was as an autonomous country or under the UK so long as the stupid fighting in NI stops.

I suppose it depends on what part you're in. Some of the more cultchy areas tend to be very narrow minded and ignorant about the subject but I understand what you mean.

That was while i was living in dublin.

Not to mention i saw micheal collins in the cinema there... The behaviour of the public... cheering during scenes when british army people got shot was extremely deplorable.

Because the British would never cheer when their army shoots someone, would they?

Sure they wouldn't, that's why they've never made any war movies about them.

Do you have any idea what was being done by those soldiers? Or do you just assume that the British Army can do nothing wrong?

Does it even matter what someone's classification in the legal system was? They fought for the freedom of their country, point and simple. Whatever the propaganda had to say about it holds no weight.

By definition a lot of the actions by the colonies before independence was announced would be considered terrorism. One man's terrorist is another man's hero

True. I just wish people would look more at the actions and intentions of the individual rather than what the enemy called them. :|
