Santa snub

How come Santa never consumes the goods that I leave waiting for him? Every year I place neatly a mince pie and a glass of sherry on a table with a little note 'for being reasonable'.

Yet every year when I get up the mince pie and glass of sherry have been untouched.

One could confuse this with rudeness on his part. How come somebody hailed as 'supremely reasonable' can act in such a callous manner?
