My headphones break quickly!

:iconnazrininator:
Nazrininator Featured By Owner Dec 6, 2012
My parents claim that I break headphones really quickly, even when treated normally. I recently got earbuds for $5, and one of the speakers went out in 8 days. I got this pair of earbuds on my birthday. [link] One of the sides only lasted 87 days, which is a ridiculously low amount of time.

Am I the only one that breaks my earbuds rapidly, even when I treat them normally?

P.S. I love to listen to the radio using my earbuds. Maybe that's the problem.

All of these things with strings are cheap-shots, the wires in the strings break way too damn easily ._.
Switch to this : GG SOLACE-AIR (or any type of bluetooth headphone, though I recommend this one c: )
These are WIRELESS headphones that use Bluetooth, thus, no strings = can't break :D

Well, I need the kind that is noise isolating or noise cancelling. Wireless headphones are a great idea!

And that's why you don't buy the headphones on the rack in the checkout line at the supermarket. You actually go out and buy quality headphones.

I have a pair of $20-25 JVC ear buds that have lasted me for about a year, and still going. They have been put through the washing machine so many times and work just fine.

AUGH YES.

All mine are actual headphones, considering I can't keep earbuds in, and they break way too fast. Longest I've had a pair was a month or two I think. Shortest was a few hours. ;u;

Headphones and earphones are not the same thing, do not use the terms interchangeably!

Also yeah, stop getting cheap ones. Plus what you say is treating them normally might not be treating them well. Rolling the wires up and shoving them in a bag or pocket is a good way to deteriorate the wires quickly, especially if you roll them with sharp bends.

$5? No wonder they broke quickly. I have a pair of 30-something (In British pounds, because I am a Brit) headphones, and they've managed to last (probably because I actually look after them.)

If you want long-lasting earbuds, you're gonna have to fork out around $20 - $40 for a decent pair. Or even better, actual headphones. :|

It may be worth investing in a bit more there if you don't want them to break. :B

5$? Seriously?

Btw what does "normally" mean in your book? Wrapping them around your MP3 player? Because that IS mistreatment. Go and get yourself a decent pair of headphones or IEMs (honestly, earbuds suck) and put them in a pouch (like this one for IEMs [link]). They'll definitely last much longer.

Mine break fairly often, some last from 1 week to 5 months.
I've learned not to get $5.00 earbuds because they tend to be cheap and break within a week.
You get what you pay for.

$5 earbuds. Come on. You don't see breakage coming?

I ended up investing in a pair of Pioneer HDJ's, they've lasted a year now and have actually outlasted the laptop headphone jack. <_<

Unfotrunately, your five-dollar earbuds are breaking because they are five-dollar earbuds. You tend to get what you pay for when it comes to headphones. Even Skullcandy has a really good brand (Skullcrushers) that's worth the money.

But Bose is the shit. Just saying.

Surprisingly, I've had 97 cent earbuds last longer than $20 earbuds. I think it all comes down to what material they're using to manufacture them.

Stop wrapping the cord of your earbuds. I volunteered as an audio tech for a couple of years and wrapping electronic cords the way most people wrap them is a fantastic way to destroy the wires inside. I know it's a total pain in the ass to untangle them, but you're seriously better off just putting your earbuds away without wrapping them. There's very fine wires inside the cord that connects to the L/R earbud and whenever you wrap the cords you're putting lateral strain on them until they eventually break away. This is why a lot of people have earbuds/headphones that only work in one ear, too.

Also, the headphones keep breaking because you get shit headphones. Get better quality ones that won't break as easy.

30 dollars can get you a decent pair of headphones. 5 dollars on the other hand, will not.

When my earphones stop working, I don't throw them away. Instead, I recycle them using a headphone splitter and basically create a new set.

The ones with the multi-touch button sucked. I had an iPod Shuffle 3rd Gen (which required that kind of earbud exclusively). I went through three pairs in less than a year.
