Money > safety, obviously.

I heavily bruised my hip because I fell off my bike because the fucking municipality has this new rule where they only salt the "main" roads, leaving the "normal" roads us cyclists take as a fucking sheet of ice. Seriously, you hear it creaking beneath your damn feet. Now I can't work for at least two days, I can't go to the gym this weekend and I'm in a hell of pain simply because it's cheaper to leave the cycling paths dangerous as fuck.

And this was only the first damn day of snow! Look at all the other limbs I can still injure!

tldr: pppppaaaiiiiiiiinn.

Yeah, icy roads are scary! My bike once slipped from under me, but fortunately I landed on my bum so I was only sore for a short while. Another time I fell flat on my face, kissing the concrete quite literally. Then I showed up at work with an upper lip like Pocahontas, LOL!

I believe the municipality is still responsible for the safety of the roads though. Hope your hip feels better soon!

Thanks, it's already feeling about 70% better. I'm glad the rain washed away all the snow.

Wait... aren't you from a place where the bicycle is less a toy and more a mode of transportation?

Darn, I wish we had that weather. :noes:

Right now, we're having warm weather but it should return to normal. It's still pretty warm, but not as much.

I don't like really warm weather and I don't mind the cold, but I mind when it's "wet" outside, which includes snow.

Aren't there any mud and snow tires for bikes you could buy? It's really a must have in winter times if you have to bike.

I should probably consider it, yes, if they exist. Where I lived before here it never snowed as heavily and since it was a town they were done salting the roads pretty quickly, which is obviously not the case here.

Why are you riding a bike when there is ice? Is there seriously no other way to get a ride to work?
Reply
:iconelmida:
Elmida Featured By Owner Dec 6, 2012
No, the bus that goes there gives me a bloody 15 minute detour and I still have to walk a large part. I cycle where there is ice because there is fucking ice everywhere.

You realise there are way too many roads and paths to grit, right? It was a bit stupid of you to go biking in the snow, tbh.

It's especially stupid when you have no other way of transportation...........

And it's a new system, they refuse to salt the smaller roads to save up salt. It has nothing to do with not having the time or whatever. It's not as if it was a horrible backwards road, it was a normal often used road in a neighbourhood.

Last I checked, walking was a mode of transportation. Otherwise, what they hell am I doing every day?

Too far? Get a snowmobile or put studded tires on your bike and call yourself 'The Road Warrior'.

What the hell makes you think you have to live that far north just to own a snowmobile? They're for riding on snow anywhere there's snow. I'm from Minnesota and practically every other family has at least one.

Well go on the main roads, all you did was be stupid, and not think. They aren't actually entitled to de grit the floor at all, but they do for health and the economy/work life of everyone. You need to just man up and walk.

Seriously? You get that from people telling you to stop being a stupid idiot. Bike + ice. Is it -that- hard to comprehend.

The government isn't going to protect every single thing that goes wrong, you need to stop being a dependant little child and choose your own risks.

Because I have these amazing radar eyes that can notice how a road has turned into ice from meters away while hours before it was just snow and one can cycle through snow perfectly fine. That's obviously idiotic.

Really? You can't think now? Its really not difficult, I've always been aware that my half an hour journey can be made quite dangerous on paths if I don't take into consideration when it snows/ices over. Its not hard, just think.
