Mediocrity

I have to apply to the illustration program by tomorrow night. I miscalculated my portfolio big time. Now I have to include more mediocre works to get all my pieces in. :crying:

I don't know what to include that won't make me look like a loser! I swear my color choices have improved!

Wrong program. If I were going for studio, then that's what I'd do.

If I could make up a story about poo and then use poo to draw it, that would work.

Do that. I dare you, you won't, you're scared.

I am scared. I actually want to get in.
If I were focusing on concepts, doing something gross like that would be entertaining.

I'd say it's a matter of what you think they will judge you on. A few great pieces with a few crappy could be better than someone with a mediocre portfolio through and through, but if they favor someone with a more stable one you're screwed.
You just have to make the call. What did your portfolio look like the last time? You have one thing on your side, and that is that you can show improvement from the last time. Try to empazise that and it might work out.

I've been very careful with my tangents with the new stuff. That's definitely an improvement.

I think they actually do favor people on their second turns if they show they've been working and I got really close last time. It's just a last minute freak out. But after tomorrow, no more worries for me!

What are the guidelines?

I need 10 pieces and a creative exercise. This is my second try, and I talked about the problems with the head of the department. I don't want to resubmit stuff that we talked about without improving them, but I'm stuck.

I'm tempted to just turn in 9 pieces that I know are at least pretty strong.

And the 9 pieces don't necessarily fit what is asked for?

Oh, all of them fit what is asked for. It's just that some are not very strong in color choice or composition or something like that.
Although, I am using a lot more animals this go around. I need human figures....

Doesn't matter, as long as it shows what you're capable of

Yeah, but I don't wanna look like I'm capable of crap! I'm probably over-thinking it.

Everyone is capable of crap, even great artists can sometimes do really bad stuff, can't they?

Yeah, but you don't stick it in your portfolio.

As long you show some good stuff, you'll be fine. You're going there to learn, it's fine to show some less-good stuff.

It's s u p e r competitive here and I've already been rejected once out of two chances. See why I'm freaking out?
I really oughta just go to bed. I do have tomorrow. I know I'll be ok. It's not the end of the world even if I don't make it in. :)

Ah okay.

Sometimes you have to take a chance and just submit things you think are strong enough for your portfolio.

Seeing the title made me sing "Twist and Shout".

I like her lower pitch.

what i don't get is the title. isn't it redundant?

Not necessarily. Shouting and screaming can overlap, but I think there are a few differences.

i guess. the lower-pitch actually isn't all that bad, but everything else is.

I was going to say I liked the song, but then I thought I should get all the way through it first.
