Hoods aren't badass anymore

:iconcorvalian:

When did cool looking hoods go out of style? You know, the big billowy ones that you see in medieval and fantasy settings. Now days, all our hoods barely fit up over our heads, have these wussy little draw strings, and pin together right at the neck. I want to see people walking around in motherfucking badass cloaks n' shit without it being weird. Some celebrity or fashion designer needs to bring this back from the 1100's so that we can all feel a little more awesome again.

It's not just for looking cool, these hoods did more good than what we got now. They covered your whole head, and dipped over your face enough to keep rain from hitting you in the face. Their only downside was that more of your head would be exposed to the cold, but if you're wearing it for the cold then just wrap up tighter or something.

Right now, our best rain protection is umbrellas, and sometimes I just have too much shit to carry to use one of those. Besides, seeing a grown-ass man with an umbrella always makes me want to kick their ass. I blame batman and Danny Devito for this.

I love hoods. I want the ones that go over your head and are not pointy towards the end.
I hate how hoods theses days; they fall off your head if you WALK.

Winter coats have those kinds of hoods, except they're not made out of billowy fabric, but they are quite large.

Yea I guess that's true. The problem with those is that the coat is so thick that the hood just kind of fans out and doesn't end up looking cool.

I've considered making myself a nice velvet hooded cloak for the wintertime when I fix my sewing machine. Good velvet. Not shitty costume velvet.

I am also sad that hoods and capes are not part of fashion anymore. Everything was so much more brooding and mysterious when they were around. I WANT MYSTERY NOW. :iconbroodplz: ...and a broodplz. :grump:

I don't know what you're talking about.

In my magical fantasy land of Portland, OR, if we want something we

FUCKING MAKE IT.

I actually happen to own one of these things that you speak of, and I get countless compliments on it.

It was hand-made for me by a really awesome artistic fashion model. She put fur around the trim, and made a attaching chain piece that comes down into a really cool neckpiece with feathers, a crow foot for voodoo, and an inlaid jewel in the center.

Just wait, we're gonna start a trend. You'll be seeing it in your hometown in the next decade or so.

Sounds pretty sexy.

Don't be trashing my home town though! We can't all know artistic fashion designers.

I wasn't trashing your hometown, I'd have to know where you're from to properly do that ;)

Seriously though. There's nothing stopping you from making your own hood. You can even make JUST A HOOD, that's what I have. I also have a pretty epic coat from Buddhaful Designs (based in Seattle) that boasts a lovely black hood that unzips in the middle...

So these things DO exist. You just need to make them or buy them.

I'm kinda broke so I usually make stuff, which is always more fun and turns out better anyways.

Being artistic isn't as difficult as you think. Obviously, you've done the hardest part, which is imagining it. Now you just have to draw it out and then cut some fabric bits and do a bit of stitching... and viola! Something unique straight out of your own head. You, yourself will be a cutting-edge artistic fashion model by your own making!
