Doesn't make it a fandom, though. A fandom is the community that surrounds a tv show/movie/book etc. Fanfiction writers, artists, poets, and cosplayers are all members of that fandom and most people in a fandom participate in forums, on facebook pages, livejournal and tumblr communities, and conventions.
Drawing Hitler in a thong isn't fandom and never was. Unless I'm participating in a community where all we do is draw Hitler in a thong, write stories and poems about it, and even cosplay as it and communicate with eachother through a forum or blog and chatter endlessly about it- then no, I ain't part of any fandom.
There are people in the Sonic fandom who would probably fight to the death over whether or not Sally is right for Sonic. Because cartoon animals are serious fucking business. And it's not just 12-13 year olds who do this, there are grown men who obsess over this.
You should see the shipping in the freaking South Park fandom, because third and fourth-grade boys are all totally in love with each other and have hot gay sex, right?!
