Blocking

:iconplatinumdreaming:
PlatinumDreaming Featured By Owner Nov 11, 2012  Professional Digital Artist
I strongly suggest dA goes back to no time limit between blocking and unblocking, otherwise there's going to be a lot more reports to handle overall with being unable to reblock for 48 hours. 48 hours is far too long and by then dA will have twice as many reports to ignore because one person can't walk away to avoid further conftrontation as they can't reblock for 2 DAYS.

Seriously, rethink this. Thank you.

they did this so trolls couldn't comment on something, then block the person, then unblock them and comment on something else, then block them again, etc.

Should this be a suggestion rather than a complaint?

Also, you get people who unblock just to say something nasty on a person's page and then block again. Having two days where they can't do that cuts down on this behavior.

Shouldn't have a need to be blocking and unblocking, block and be done, unless of course you like the drama.

As others have said, removing the time limit just allows for the opportunity for people to go back to abusing the block system again. Yes, there are people who aren't interested in simply having the last word in, but there are too many dumbfucks out there who ruin it for everyone else.

I remember when you couldn't block anyone at all and just had to deal with folks and actually 'resolve' the problem with communication. If it got out of hand, a person was banned by admins for harassment.

It seemed so much simpler back then - you know, when the Admins actually had to do the job of Administration.

DA obviously has a problem with blocking.

What it really needs is a good old-fashioned enema - which should get things unblocked in no time.

That sounds way too hard and too much trouble. That would be like introducing a blocking feature on a website and then having to fix that blocking feature over and over again because it causes too many problems.

Well at this point with such a huge site it would be to much to handle, but back when dA was much less than 100,000 members it was fine.

I guess my problem is more with the people that use the blocking feature for stupid reasons rather than just talking it out with the person. It got even more annoying when people started preemptively blocking.

If you can't handle the reblock time, stop blocking/unblocking people. DA isn't responsible for handling your petty drama, and your shit isn't as serious as you think it is. 2 days? Who gives a fuck. Go hang out with some real life friends for 2 days and block when you come back.

The mistake that you make is thinking that there are serious repercussions by having such a 'long' reblock time. When really nothing that happens over 2 days here really matters.

And this is a god damn suggestion, and should be in suggestions.

I think it's PERFECT. If you want to be a shithead and block someone because you're assanguished over them, then unblock them for just a second so you can give them some idiotic, asinine "lol pwnt" comment or something like that, then enjoy your punishment.

That's the case the vast majority of the time. We're probably all saying that because we KNOW this is what happens after being around here long enough. This scenario you're discussing I can't recall seeing once in my 6 years of pissing around on this website, and it sounds far too trivial and oddly specific for anybody to cater to.

No. It makes people think before they unblock people. If you are stupid enough to unblock them, then take a break from deviantart for two days. It's not hard.

wanting to be forgiving and willing to give a 2nd chance doesn't make a person stupid so they shouldn't be made to suffer for it. not even facebook has a time limit that's 2 days long. 24 hours max is the necessity, not 2+ days.

unblocking someone who still reacts badly to you means that you're a bad judge of character. Besides, how do you get on in real life? when there is no way to block someone?

maybe so but that doesn't effect that an act of kindness is a bad decision. why should people have to be constantly on guard about people who could genuinely be nice and considerate? people miss out on a lot of chances that way. and dealing with it offline is hard, because you can't stop someone from punching you in the back of the head when you go to walk away, but then on what grounds should that justify making online life that hard as well? at least offline there's authorities to help if it goes too far, dA seems to have gotten itself quite a reputation for ignoring those who ask for help.

an act of kindness can be a bad choice.
if you picked up a hitchhiker, and they robbed you, that's a bad choice.
If you gave money to a scammer, who was pretending to be homeless, that's a bad choice.
If you let someone in your house to use your phone, and they attack you, that's a bad choice.
If you unblock someone, and they are still rude, then that's a bad choice.

You're at least 13. take responsibility for your actions.
