MLP fans need a new website

EeNii's avatar
I don't like that I open the DeviantArt's front page and the most popular art in 8/24 hours are ponies!! D:
Why? Where are the fantastic painters' paintings? Where are the talented artists' works? Everywhere there are just ponies... I think the awesome artists deserve more attention.
Not too long time ago I loved searching in the front page but now... not so... u.u
Why don't they make a website for pony fans to pony fans?

IMPORTANT RULE OF DA #222333: Never look at latest. EVER.
Pookinator's avatar
Once, long ago, I pledged to give an in-depth and pleasant critique to one piece of art chosen from the latest deviations, everyday.

Today, I mumble to myself incoherently and occasionally try to fit my head into cereal boxes. I can't help but believe the pledge and my current mental state are somehow related.

protip; don't look at the latest page.

...Yet no one seems to have a problem with the constant Hetalia, Pokemon, Naruto, Sonic, and other fanart -not to mention the blatant porn that violates the TOS, yet goes unnoticed- ? Pardon if I sound rude here, but y'all are being a wee bit hypocritical? We're a fandom just like anyone else with a right to express our interest in the show through art -do note that the majority of it ISN'T R34 or NSFW-. If MLP artists were to leave dA and "find their own website", the same concept would have to be excerised by nearly every fandom here. Tell me how that's fair to anyone? I respect your opinion as well as the fact that you and many others dislike MLP, but in all honesty, it's not going to go away for quite awhile. The best advice I can give you at this moment is to either change your settings to Popular All Time & use your messages as your source for viewing new art, or simply toughen up and deal with what's currently popular.

There are many websites for pony fans. And I can see where you come from. I don't like looking at the front page and seeing nude pics that are supposed to be very artsy. Naturally, if you don't like the subject, you won't see the beauty :3
The reasons you see so many drawings with mlp is because:
1) It is a pretty popular show
2) A good percentage of those who watch it are decent at drawing
3) Mlp ponies are easier to draw for some people
4) I put this one just because I like even numbers c:
And btw some of the mlp drawings are extremely well drawn! So don't go around asking "where are the fantastic painters' paintings?" :P

I'm pretty sure almost every one of these negative comments has a twin here. They're all just a brief insult with no explanation or reasoning. :B

Ah, ponies. I do think it's a little bothersome that they are all over the front page, but only when I am reminded so, because I keep my dA on "Newest" -- and the "ponifications" of people and characters from anywhere the human brain can reach is a little irritating. However, just because an artist decides to draw fanart for a certain show or whatever, they are not less of an artist. Fanart may not seem as original as original art (and by what we call each type of art, you'd assume that), but a creative artist can do all sorts of amazing things with fanart, with the show/book/movie/etc. simply as a source of inspiration.

Another thing is that it's just a fandom. Not the fandom, a fandom. I'm sure you've heard of Homestuck, which has a largely increasing fanbase. I've heard not one complaint about the ample fanart for Homestuck. Sure, it may not be on the front page as often (I'm not sure since I don't look at the front page). But it's everywhere.

Another thing you'll realize is that fanart is more popular than original art most of the time, because it gives creator and viewer a common interest. A viewer will better like a piece of art they can see and instantly recognize than one with a strange character they do not know. Fanart is just largely more popular than original art, and the MLP:FiM fanbase is just very extensive and almost 2 years old.

Oh, and banning MLP:FiM from dA kind of ruins what dA is for -- exposing art so the artist can share their ideas without having to have it officially approved and published. It would be very unfair to ban pony fanart from the site.

They need a new planet.
The moment I saw some fucker spray painting fluttershit or whatever on a local bike shop wall downtown was the day my tolerance flew out the window

There is more anime on here than Ponies.

(Ponies are not anime. It's an American cartoon. :stare:)

Now enjoy this MSPaint pony I did on the COMAQ PC

The most popular deviations in 24 hours aren't remotely pony-related. I have to scroll down over FOURTY deviations to find something pony-related. Even then, any pony art that gets that much attention are done by talented artists to start with.

Typical human tendency to blow things out of proportion, IMO.

Usully I try just to look away when there´s pony art. But that doesn´t change that I can´t understand the pony fandom. Really. MLP is the most boring fandom I know on DA. In my eyes this artworks look all the same. maybe someone can explain to mee.. What´s the good about ponies? i ask because I don´t get it...

Just because it's not appealing to you, doesn't mean it's not appealing to other people. For instance, the furry fandom. I can only stand so much furry art, and I only like art that looks up-to-par. I don't like furry art because OMG FURRIES. I like it because I'm supporting a talented artist, regardless of what they draw.

It's not about WHAT people draw, it's about the love and dedication they put into their hard work.

Those lame ass ponies have more then outlived their welcome. About time we sold them off for dog food and glue. :L

Wow, that's mature.

Never said it was supposed to be, but thanks anyways. =p
Slutty-Artemis-Fowl's avatar
So in other words, because they choose to draw fanart for a specific show, they should leave this website for art of any kind?
EeNii's avatar
nope. I would like to said, there is a lots of better arts! Any kind of anime, sonic, landscapes, ponies, etc. but I always saw copies and low quality pictures :(
Slutty-Artemis-Fowl's avatar
But how is that, for one thing, unique to only MLP fans? And if they're really copies, IE tracing or something, that's against the websites policy, so take it up with the staff. If you mean the same general picture over and over again, just remade, well, sorry, but we ALL have to start somewhere.
Pony fans are the same as every other person out there. They may not be all the good at first because, *gasp*, nobody is ever born perfect at something. This is a website to show your progress, to share your art. Good or bad. Is it not?
This elitism crap is annoying because you're going to scare young artist out of posting their art for criticism. Segregating artists because they "have low quality pictures" is truly, really annoying. Art is as much a skill as anything else. Obviously the first cake you make entirely from scratch isn't going to be award-winning.
