Finding time to draw

:iconprincess-rufflebutt:

So I'm making an effort to draw on a daily basis. I've been finding that a bit hard since I have work, school, and I've been going to the gym a lot lately.

However, I really feel that I'm not improving at a rate that I would like to see and I feel that it's due to the fact that I don't have a lot of spare time to just doodle and practice.

And whenever I do have time, I just feel completely uninspired. It's starting to make me extremely frustrated, since I really want to get better as quickly as possible.

Anyways, just a rant about my life lately. And if anyone has some advice to offer I'm all ears.

Make the drawing you do really meaningful.
For instance, if you could spare the time to take a life drawing course, or something like that, it would help a lot.

I'm the opposite :| I need time to do everything else. Fine art course: don't do one. Your love for art will disappear, and you will soon start to hate anything that looks even moderately artsy. Kill me now.

You don't have to be inspired to draw. Carry around a small sketchbook with you and draw whatever you see in front of you. It's an easy way to get at least 10-15 minutes of drawing done while you're waiting for the bus or something. You can also draw during down time at work.

Why draw when you can edit screen caps? Sure it's against dA's rules, but take a look at this beauty:

My advice for you is to carry around a little sketch book and a pencil. Even a notebook works. That way when you are out and about and you get inspired, you can roughly get your idea out. I do it all the time. Have a few minutes a lunch, sketch, waiting on something sketch. That way you are practicing and it makes the day go by a little faster.

Whenever I get like this I just watch porn. That way afterwards, if I'm still not inspired, at least I watched porn.

going to the gym is for the vain. skip that and use the time spent on your ego for drawing.

Going to the gym is for people who are health conscious and don't want to die at an early age due to heart problems, cancer, or obesity. All of which run in my family and all of which regular exercise combats. :T I think I'll continue going, thankyou very much.

Have you considered suffering a serious injury? If you're laid up in the hospital, people will leave you alone to draw, while you heal.

{insert a condescending story about how I am so much more busy that you are here}

All kidding aside, I have found that I force myself to do creative exercises just to keep on doing something. I skim the news/facebook/twitter and find something interesting, and then create something related to it. It doesn't even have to be related, really, just whatever comes to your mind from it.

I usually don't spend more than half an hour to an hour on it, it doesn't take long to sketch out an idea. Half an hour isn't that much time when you think about it. Getting up half an hour earlier or staying up half an hour later can clear up the time you need.

The result of a few of the exercises is what my gallery consists of, now that I think about it.

I'm doing NaNoWriMo, trying to knit a shit ton of scarves for Christmas in a two-month span with only five sets of needles (two sets of which have nothing on the end to prevent the stitches from falling off), keep up with school, and everyone seems to need something from me the exact minute I sit down to try and write.

I KNOW THAT FEEL. AND THAT FEEL SUCKS DONKEY COCK. :crying:

Find some duct tape and wrap it around the end. I've done that before and it works as a temporary quick fix.

My friends had no idea I knew how to knit until I brought my favorite set of needles to school with me to work on a scarf. My best friend, whom I've known for almost thirteen years, was stunned.
