I hadn't ever really heard of him before all this shit, but when the news announced his death that day the first thing I thought upon seeing the footage of him was: 'He looks like a child molester'. Not a very nice thing to think of a recently deceased person but I guess I can get away with it on this instance.
My ex knows more about it, but she was dumb and didn't understand the full mechanics why, so I researched further. Turns out self loathing and no understanding by anyone on the planet (even murderers are understood these days) a sex offender has no future even after being released.
The show is Sherlock, for the record. The final scenes of the first series finale were one big riff on Jim'll Fix It, right down to Holmes himself saying stuff like, "Dear Jim, please will you fix it for me to get rid of my lover's nasty sister," and stuff. The joke was that the baddie was sort of the Jimmy Savile of the underworld. Which now is just... gah.
Yes, he often visited this cafe that we went to after we walked our dogs, he usually just held court and ranted about stuff in the doorway refusing to move to let anybody in or out, but the best thing was when he walked into the cafe and demanded that somebody bought him a meal because of who he was and another was when he walked into the corner shop next door (it's joined to the cafe with a door) and took a newspaper without paying because of who he was.
He was a disgusting pedophile and while I don't condone mob justice, I think it's sad that you care more about the corpse of a disgusting pedophile than you do about his victims or those who are angry that he never faced justice during life.
He's dead. It's not gonna matter a lick to him what the fuck happens to his corpse, I don't here the bastard complaining. If his family doesn't give a shit either, why should I? Dig up the stiff and stick him in a petunia pot someplace where he can't stink up the joint. Water twice daily.
Actually, now that I think about it they pretty much had to cremate the body and destroy the grave. At least a cremation is a respectable end. If they had left it, you know that somebody who had more extreme views would have dug him up and made a drinking cup out of his skull.
That could have meant he was the world's creepiest psychopath or the world's greatest magician. I need context godammit.
Well, I just read up on it a little. Assuming most of the information is true, it looks like they had one hell of a shock after this guy died. I mean, how could 300-400 cases just go unnoticed? That's pretty impressive in the worst of ways.
I can kind of see where they were coming from, though. You can't just learn something like that and pretend it never happened just because the dude kicked the bucket before justice was served. I feel like they wanted to do something to help his victims however they could. Was destroying his grave probably too extreme? Perhaps.
It's just unfortunate that the backlash was so severe. Charities shutting down is never a good thing, especially over a name.
Yes I read it, I just can't cope how violent people are being. I just want to live in a civilized college educated world. Savile didn't hurt anyway of these people wanting to dig him up, they're just sick, I read FB everyday and I just want to delete everyone and move away.
Saville was fucking disgusting, just look at that hair.
But in all seriousness, it's a great shame he's not alive to face the consequences of his actions. A witch-hunt is fully deserved in this instance, and the ritual destruction of his entire legacy and reputation is the right thing to do. Thankfully it seems like some of his accomplices are still alive to take some of the flak.
Active crime > cold case Of course if the later was active I would consider it more severe. Why raise this anyway isn't deflecting from the situation some kind of fallacy? Such as X is okay because Y did worse. I don't think a lot of people get this.
Crimes from thirty odd years ago without a crime scene are cold case. A robbery still would have a crime scene unless it happened years before in which case there would be no evidence. As would a rape scene. You're deflecting from the topic.
I didn't even like him when he wasn't a pedophile, he is somewhat of a scapegoat for the media though. He represents a much larger scale of sexual abuse within the entertainment industry and being dead makes him an easy target, not to mention he couldn't look like more of an old lech if he tried so it's easy to use him as a figurehead for an otherwise anonymous group. It was interesting to see Sky News run something about him once being questioned during the Yorkshire Ripper case, as if that has anything at all to do with his current allegations. Regardless, I care little about the man, I don't believe in the sanctity of death or that the dead should be honoured and remembered for any other purpose than for the peace of those grieving. When I'm dead feel free to dig me up, cut my body into pieces and molest the shattered shell that is my corpse, something tells me I won't give a crap.
