There is a chihuahua in my house

:iconmegstiel:

I had no intentions of having a chihuahua in this house yesterday, but sometimes these things happen.

Yesterday I was in the car with my dad, driving home after running a couple of errands. There was a chihuahua in the middle of the road, and there was a car coming right for it. And the chihuahua wasn't moving. In fact it didn't move until the car finally stopped and had to shoo it away, which got it to run to the other side of the street (he was staring at some dalmation in a yard) where he continued not moving. Then we saw him run into a busy street, and there was no doubt that he was going to be killed.

So my dad was able to coax him over towards him and we brought him into the car. We checked his tag, which had stuff written on it but a lot of it had been worn down. We checked at a few of the houses on the block, but didn't find anyone who knew anything about him. We were able to make out a few phone numbers and called them, but they were all disconnected. We also could find out where he had gotten his rabies vaccination and that he was microchipped, but they gave us a name, some more useless disconnected phone numbers, and a PO Box.

We tried searching for his owner on facebook and in the phone book, but nope he wasn't there.

My dad had to go to work, we brought the chihuahua home so he wouldn't be freezing or pancake outside, and decided that we would probably have his owners found by the end of the day.

Nope.

I've been scouring craigslist for missing dogs, I posted a thing on tumblr and facebook hoping to find someone who knows who this dog is even and can point me in the right direction, but I have had no luck.

The worst part is that my dad and brother are acting like the dog is MY RESPONSIBILITY for some reason, just because I'm responsible for the other tiny dog in the house. I know it was both of our's decisions to take him home, but I just didn't want him to die. I'm not obliged to love this dog. ;-; And it's really difficult because he really likes me. He keeps on wanting to be held and stuff which is starting to make my other dog feel insecure and I don't want her upset at me.

My little brother (the drug dealing thief who is also 12) really likes him, thank God. The chihuahua likes to sit on his pile of dirty laundry in his room. :o

At this point I think I'm going to send a letter to that PO Box because I can't just send the chihuahua there, but I wish there was a faster way to get ahold of this person. I feel really bad for them because when my dog went missing for like half an hour I was sobbing, but I'm pretty stuck as to how to find this little guy's owners.

I love all animals, but little dogs are really fucking annoying usually. They don't bark, they "YAP YAP YAP YAP YAP." Props to you for saving the poor thing though.

They are just going to take it to the humane society, which is already overflowing with dogs. I think we're just going to keep him, the more we look at what's going on.

Wait a minute, your complaining about a little yapping dog when your brother is a underaged drug dealer?

 I already complained about that months ago. I just find it kind of funny because it makes us looks like trailer trash, since we live in a trailer (albeit a nice one), there's a drug dealer who lives here, we live off of food stamps, and now we have a chihuahua.

Holy run on sentence, Batman!

I'm starting to think maybe something happened to the owners, but I guess that is just as likely. It makes me sad either way. :c

yeah it's sad but ya did a good thing saved the pup from being turned into a pancake and found someone that likes 'em even if it sleeps on a pile of dirty laundry O.o the pooch is loved right?
Not many people would do that for a lost dog. Most people would just walk away.

People don't want to get involved in things like that, I don't blame them.
Hell, I just wanted to find his owners and thought that it wouldn't be more than a few hours and now it's shaping up to look like he might live with us. :o Maybe that's what people are afraid of happening.

not to sound cynical or anything if your find a stray you can just turn them over to a shelter it's not that hard. Not to long my niece gave her grandmother a kitten now my aunt her grandmother yelled at her for picking up the kitten now this kitten was very young a few months old. now get this i lived in Pennsylvania at that time it gets really cold at night she left the kitten outside on the side of the road i found it 3 hour later while walking my dog. took with me to work to take it to a shelter it wound up find a home in a bagel place. It's not that hard to do the right the thing ya know if she didn't want the cat she could have said so. it not that most people are afraid most people just rather not be bothered and just walk way. either way much respect for what you did. sorry if upset you with my short story

They filed the numbers off of his tag before abandoning him.

Why not just take the tag off entirely? Would take less effort. Besides, it looks like it just wore off after time, like just years of rubbing against his rubber collar. And we could still get some info off of it since there was a number on the back, everything was just outdated.

But it is possible that whoever owned the dog, doesn't want it back. Consider that.

If you can't keep the dog and you can't find the owner, there are many no-kill animal rescues that take in rescued animals. I got my cat from a rescue. When she was a tiny kitten, her and her siblings were found in a box at a Toyota dealership. Now she's a spoiled little princess.

There's a no kill shelter here, but they are overflowing with animals and I know that once they have no more room they send the dogs to another shelter, where they may or may not be killed, so there's no real escape to that problem.

I don't think we'll be able to find the owner, but we have a friend who would love to take him off our hands for us so that's probably what's going to happen.

That sucks. =/

It's difficult to know whether the owner ditched the dog or not there, I guess?

But yeah, hopefully there is a good home found eventually... I can't say I am fond of chihuahuas, though. :hmm:

I think if they were to dump him they would have left him the middle of the highway or on the mesa... he was in the middle of a pretty populated neighborhood that while albeit is known to have bears occasionally, doesn't seem too likely.

I'm not too fond of them either, they are all twitchy and always shaking and they smell bad and are sticky. :c I like long haired chihuahuas though.

I think something might have happened to his owners, like they went to jail or something. I know a lot of the shelter dogs are there because of that.

That isn't true actually, once someone dumped a puppy by our mailbox, and we think it was because they knew we had dogs and would likely take it in. Unfortunately, the between the cold rain that day and it's illness(already sick when we found it) the puppy didn't make it.
