This is because you grew up without a dad and your grandma was too hard on you..." OH MY FUCKING GOD! SHUT UP!!!!!

its because most have been lead to believe socialism is the exact same thing as communism, which they are not even though they are similar in structure.
Also people here tend to believe stuff is bad just because someone said it was. For instance the first time Obama ran, this same sister of mine had a huge rant about how socialism was bad, and I ended up asking her if she even knew what it was. Funny thing is she answered honestly, and she had no clue what it was. I face palmed to no end at that.
