Wrecks, insurance, friggin BACK! fml

Waaaagh! My back hurts so much! I wanna bite somebodies face off!

I had injuries when I was younger that I JUST got over, like two months ago. Maybe two years ago or so I had to wear a back support (still wear it sometimes) and could barely walk. It's slowly gotten better until finally it felt healed. Now it's hurt again.

Yeah, so here's what happened.

I was going to pick my daughter up from school. They just put turn lane down the side of the road closest to the school, and I come from the other way. The cop who directs traffic up there (for which we are all grateful) decided that people need to go up the road and do a u turn into the turn lane to enter the school lot, instead of sitting in the lane and waiting to across the other lane, holding up traffic trying to go past. That's fine, I can respect that.

The road is straight, there are no trees nearby, it's a nice sunny day. Little traffic but not to bad.

So I'm sitting in my lane, waiting to make a U turn, lights working, turn signal on, etc, when I look in the rearview and see this big red SUV rolling up behind me. I think she's going a little fast, but expect her to stop. Nope, totaled my (brothers) car by crushing the rear end. My dog is in the front seat and she gets thrown into the dash a little but she's OK.

I wave her over to the side and we pull over. She asks if she needs to call the cops, but since the cop is already over on the other side of the road we just sit there and wait. At this point my back feels fine.

Well, he gets over to us, talks to us, takes info, etc. Car still drives so I take it home, her car is of course fine.

By the end of the day my back is killing me, so I figure I'll make an injury claim. I farm, raise, train animals, do art and crafts, physical stuff so I gotta be able to be on my feet. I'd be fine with just a look over and some good painkillers (otc stuff doesn't work for me).

So later I go pick up the police report, and have a look. Pretty straightforward. Then I see that the lady said her view was obscured. That's the first thing that pisses me off.

Obscured by WHAT? Oh, I KNOW by what. Your vision was obscured by you turning around to talk to your kids in the back seat, I'd bet good money on that.

Anyway, it's obviously her fault so my brother gets his car totaled and they pay him (way less than he needs to get another car, of course) and see about my injury claim.

The lady came by today to talk to me about that.

She said go somewhere and pay for it, they'll pay me back. Which is a pain in the ass since I'm in that huge gap of people who makes to much money to get government aid but not enough to get insurance and still, you know, be able to eat, so that's out of pocket. OR find somewhere that will bill me and not expect payment up front. Ha, good luck on that second one.

And getting them to pay me back, I'm a bit worried about that one. If I was SURE it would be OK. I just left her a message asking for something in writing.

I think next time I have to deal with insurance I'll sic my husband on them. He's awesome at making people do what they are supposed to do.

To make it more annoying, there is low cost clinic nearby but they don't treat pain anymore. They refer you to a specialist. Which I can TOTALLY afford with no insurance, no problem *eyeroll*.

You know WHY they do that? Well, I'll tell you why: a couple years ago a FOURTEEN year old girl got her fathers prescription pad and wrote up one for some morphine lollypops. She took it to a pharmacy where the pharmacist dispensed a CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE to someone UNDER THE AGE OF 18. She and one of her friends ate them, her friend fell asleep with one in her mouth, OD'd and died. So who gets sued? The doctor? The fuckin PHARMACIST? No. The clinic he worked for. Which had nothing to do with it at all. So now they won't dispense pain meds, period. Not even a few for an injured adult.

There is another place that I can get pain meds from, and maybe x-rays and stuff, but they are way more expensive. I like them, though. I just can't afford it right now if I have to pay myself.

Anyway, so right now it looks like I have to go somewhere and get charged, then hope the insurance will cover it. Which of course we're probably going to have to fight them for tooth and nail.

I have so much crap I need to do! I'm bi-polar, depression usually lasts a week or two, but the meds I was on made me severely depressed for the last 6 months until I finally realized what was going on and got off them, just turning around from that, my house is mess, my animals pens and cages are filthy, the openhouse here is coming up so I'm supposed to be working in the studio- but I can't freakin walk around without being in incredible pain.

I don't have TIME for this BS!

tl:dr Insurance is a pain in the ass

My boyfriend has to go to a specialized pain clinic for pain medicine (he has old injuries in his hip and knee, and had surgery on his wrist recently AND has Celiac Disease which can be very painful) and barely gets any meds at all. Thankfully he has decent insurance through his work.
