What the fucking fuck?

So a little over a week ago I had a job interview, I applied for a cashier position at a retailer.
The interview didn't go so great because they asked me several questions I couldn't answer (like asking for an example of a past conflict with a coworker, which I can't recall ever happening), but I was friendly and I know I didn't act like an idiot or a weirdo, and I've even been a cashier for the same retailer before.

They were interviewing multiple people and they said they'd call by such and such day if they had a job for me.
They didn't call.

Now I'm checking a job board and see that the same store posted a cashier position yesterday.
Fucking wonderful, a retail store would rather keep looking for more applicants than hire me. I know they think I'll probably just leave in 6 months because I have a bachelor's degree and I'm too educated to be working for less than $8/hr, but goddammit I'm a good employee, I think I deserve a chance.

If I don't find a job soon I'll be forced to leave my boyfriend and my cat to move in with my parents, in a town where I have no friends.

I'm going to call the store tomorrow to ask about the job, but I don't really know what to say to convince them to give me a chance (I know this isn't hwl but suggestions would be appreciated).

tl;dr: I'm a jobless college graduate, fuck my life.

I feel you. Getting a job is more about who you know than your degree or qualifications.

Will this cashier position help your degree? Have you looked into internships? What about your masters program? What degree do you have? Why are you not trying to use your degree? (not implying you aren't)

Just a few questions because i am curious. When i graduate i will have tons of job opportunities in my area that i won't have to apply for cashier positions.

I'm going to try and get an internship eventually and when I have a better idea about what I want to do I want to go to grad school.
There aren't any biology jobs available in my city.
I just need a job so I can stay in this city for a while and assist my professor with his research in the fall, that should hopefully give me enough experience to get a good internship.

It could be any number of things.

Were you dressed appropriately?
Was your application neat and legible?
Were you polite?
Were you on time for your interview?
Do you have a great amount of availability?

Oh my God I hate those questions. I'm looking for my first job and I can't answer them because I've never been in that situation!

Having been on the other side of this situation: call them back. Really. Lots of places WON'T HIRE PEOPLE unless the person calls back. Just say you put in an application, and you want to speak to someone to check up on it. Then when you get that person on the line, say you enjoyed the interview, thank them for their time, and say you hope they're considering you for the position, and really, you can work ANY hours and your schedule is totally open. Well, maybe that's a little thick, but something of the sort.
