[link] 50 Shades of Grey is a Twilight fanfiction turned into a published novel, with light-to-moderate erotic themes. Did I mention that it has gained the nickname "Mommy Porn"?
Where I live, a local country has pulled the book from its library shelves, to the dismay of about 200 people on the book's waiting list. It made headlines all over the area: on the TV, the internet, and presumably the newspaper (which I doubt anyone reads).
Locals have started petitions to get their Mommy Porn back on shelves, and some have even compared the book-banning thing to Nazi Germany.
While I don't think it's really in the library's right to pull the book entirely, I can kind of understand why they did it. Nowadays, just because something is published doesn't make it readable. Libraries aren't often known for their quality literature selection, but I don't see why they would want to house this Mommy Porn. It's just another fad book that will be forgotten eventually... "eventually" being after the movie, of course.
TL;DR Moms throw a fit over their inaccessible word porn, which was taken by Nazis.
The only thing this library will accomplish is to make sure that practically everyone in town will now go out and buy the book just to see what the fuss is about. They're doing the publishers a HUGE favor with this.
The county isn't very large, and it isn't exactly known for its avid readers. I don't think it brought the book much more publicity, especially since news reports already did that about a week before.
It isn't vampire based, is it? I read an article on it... I thought it was just about some submissive chick and the guy that wants to dominate her sexually. Either way, there has to be better smut out there. With more hilarious names and plots, of course.
