Honestly. A 12 year old does not need a Coach bag.

I have never seen such spoiled children in my life.
Went to a gathering today. A 7th grader had Chanel earrings, a Coach purse, and a cell phone. And I'm pretty sure she got her clothes from Hollister.

Yeah. Then I had to sit down with three girls, and listen to them whine about how one needed $86 for a new cell phone (the Chanel girl), and another girl ramble on about some boy.

I think it's pretty sad what today's youth has come to. At work, I saw a 10 year old with Dolce and Gabbana [sp?] sunglasses.

Uh...I get pretty much everything I own on clearance, and people think I dress well. You don't need to be paying for sunglasses or shoes with an entire paycheck. Even if you want to buy Hollister clothes, you only need to wait a few weeks before it goes on clearance (I have gotten so much stuff from that store for under $10 and $15). You especially shouldn't be worrying about name-brand clothes at 11 and 12 years old. The extent of their discussion today was about money and clothes. And how one girl was totally in love with her boyfriend and they dated the entire school year, and how they were supposed to kiss on the last day of school, but chickened out (they're both 11, mind you).

I tried to add some common sense to the discussion, but it didn't work.

You shouldn't worry about brand name clothing period regardless of your age, it's just wasting money on a trademark and a useless social symbol. Clothes are clothes, they're all mass produced in the same fucking way.

I agree with part of what you said.
I dislike how you said youth.

I have a niece who's like the reincarnation of Athena.

I would just like a working cell phone, thank you very much. :| Christ.

Seventh graders are idiots. Hell, I was one. Probably even worse, because I always wanted to wear fancy little dresses and black stilettos. I even considered Hollister to be too "Middle America" for me. So now when I see a young girl with an expensive clothing item, I'll just give her the benefit of the doubt and assume she got it for Christmas or something. Until she talks, that is.

My friend and I were talking to a 23 year old chick we know the other night and she told us she blew most of $2000 on clothes, a purse, and a pair of sunglasses. I can think of a dozen better things to use that money on. Or *gasp* not use it at all.

Anyone who spends more than $100 on a pair of sunglasses is a douche.

My sister is 11 years old and has been asking for a cell phone (a rather expensive one, to be precise) and a messenger account for two years. Wtf, no :iconwthplz:
She doesn't go out with friends yet, so no need for a cell phone; and she sees her friends daily at school. Most of them don't have msn, anyway.
She's still a damn kid, she should be playing outside and watching cartoons :crying:

Except some give you a higher inherent social standing in teenage culture, and thus, increase your chance of sex.

Seriously, this should be obvious.

:crying: I can relate. My friend complains about how everyone calls her rich. Then she goes on to talk about how she got a plasma screen tv for her birthday, or how she wears a diamond ring and bracelet set to school. And she's only 14!
