Breathe in the nectar of OCD

I very much long to know how common "mental disorders" really are. I LONG TO KNOW YET DO NOT HAVE THE ANSWERS I SEEK! D:

There have been many claims among my classmates, namely many of my friends, that they have been clinically diagnosed with depression, OCD, ADD, ADHD, etc.
As pathetic as it is, I am aware that some falsely claim to have a "mental disorder" to conform, while others are not believed to really have depression or whatnot because of these individuals.

How many of you have actually been clinically diagnosed or strongly suspect having something like this? Those probably caused a great load of problems....

I have an anxiety disorder. I was misdiagnosed with ADD before though.

I never believed I had ADD but one doctor kept insisting that I did. I went to a specialist and they did a lot of tests and came to the conclusion that I just have a difficult time keeping up with verbal information and that I didn't have ADD at all.

Makes you wonder.

Doctors want to find something wrong with you so they can get paid. Half of the kids who 'have something wrong with them' at my school are perfectly fine.

I was diagnosed by doctors to have ADD and something else having to do with processing sounds when I was in the third grade. The slight OCD and depression is mostly a guess on the parts of others.

The depression, I mean, I used to have issues with thoughts of suicide... Lately, I've been having similar issues once more, and not being able to sleep because, oh six years ago, there was a puppy I wanted, and I didn't get it. I was crying, and couldn't stop, so therefore I could not sleep. I mean, I hadn't thought about that puppy for years... And suddenly I'm crying so much that I can't sleep? So, I dunno...
The OCD, I hate touching things in public, and count my steps when I walk. Could be, could be that I'm just a tad weird.

I was diagnosed with ADD, though at the time, I had no idea what he meant. I just remember that the doctor was giving me a speech about how many "great" people had this as well and I shouldn't be ashamed of it.

Fast forward a few years and I finally decide that it is shameful to have been diagnosed with that and refused to take medication for it. My grades actually improved after I completely quit the medication.

Hey! Who are you calling disturbed? :evileye:

We prefer to be called completely psychotic and emotionally despondent.

Indeed.

And this doctor and my parents kept thinking I needed to be on medication. All it did was 'dumb' me down, so whenever I made a good achievement, they thought it was the medication. Very frustrating business when they don't believe that you did it on your own.
