Unwanted SMS that charge

This didn't happen to me, but to my boyfriend.

He just topped up his fone with £5, then about half an hour later he got a text. It was fom some 'goofull' site, and it was a text that said something along the lines of:

goofull . com
SMS 1/3
Total charge £6

It was 3 texts in total, with no real content, just the above stuff. So, he'd never even heard of this site before now, and he got charged for a text he didn't even ask for and it ate up all his credit and more. I know he's very secretive about personal info so he doesn't go about putting his mobile number in forms or anything. We're thinking his network provider might have sold his number...

I know it's not my problem, and it's not a lot of money (well, it is to him, and he needs his fone to be topped up) but it does anger me. He's going to report the site if he doesn't get a reply to his email and his money back...

Has anyone else had this before? What a cheap and nasty trick to pull on someone who's already having money problems...

So you're charged for the number of texts you receive? That sucks

most plans do that
It's a bitch if you have annoying friends who won't stop texting you
I - no lie - got 50% worth from some chick because she wouldn't stop texting me :|

Just for those three texts, normally he doesn't get charged to recieve them.

Man, that's really crazy. Over here you just get charged for when you send something to somebody.

No, most AMERICAN plans do that.
Everywhere else world wide, you pay for calls/text messages you send, not ones you recieve.

Except for certian "services" that are typically advertised late at night or to children.
