I can understand (but I don't agree with) people who don't think animals are the same level as humans. I can understand people who think we should eat meat. But I can't understand people who treat animals like they can't feel anything.
I'm really glad I became a vegetarian again when I did.
The US Department of Agriculture said it had evidence the company’s plant was slaughtering downer cattle – cows that could not walk. In such cases, slaughterhouses should contact inspectors immediately to avoid processing cows with Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy, or mad cow disease.
Capitalism, not animal cruelty. 2nd and 3rd links are due to poverty :V
Wasn't the meat recalled because the cows being killed weren't able to stand on 4 legs, thereby making them more susceptible to a larger number of diseases? I also remember something about a high pressure water hose and hook being used to try to make one of these horses stand up so that they could kill it.
All they're trying to do is prevent the spread of mad cow disease.
True, but I also think this has something to do with keeping livestock in good health. If a farmer can let his livestock go sick and lame and still pull a profit from their meat, then he's doing good business, because he's cutting costs. But if the authorities crack down on slaughter of sick or lame animals, then the farmer would be forced to keep the livestock healthy in order to get any financial benefit from keeping the animals.
Animals are property. Live with it. The company creates and raises the cow, so it can do anything to it. There is no mechanism in the human psyche that regulates the way humans should treat animals. So what. I don't care if the delicious cow I'm going to eat is skinned alive, or electrocuted, or whatever they do in the slaughterhouse. It's man's property, this cow, and the level of the the cow's nervous system is such, that to it is no big difference if a pack of wolves are tearing its guts out or man does the same. It's an ANIMAL for someone's sake. Animals suffer in the wild no less than on farms.
But. I do think that doing these things to animals that are NOT anyone's property is wrong. Because in this case, the animal belongs to itself, and the most I can do to it - is hunt it down if I'm in need.
Get over your complexes and bawwws over dead donkeys and go help some homeless children, kthx.
All they're trying to do is prevent the spread of mad cow disease.
I think you missed the point of the meat recall.
I was going on those two lines, it's a double winner. Prevent transference of disease to humans and reduce cruelty to animals. Unless you wrote it somewhere else
